Hi. MODY is mature onset of diabetes in the young. I'm 45 and was diagnosed with this two years ago. I don't fit the regular profile of type 2. Skinny build but active. Turns out both sides of the family has a history of it of diabetes.
My levels were extremely high, and its only til last 9 months on metaformin pills 3xdaily 500mg each. Change of diet and regular exercise that my levels are almost acceptable. Still a little way to go, but getting there.
So its probably because your young, diabetes is usually something diagnosed when your older. Your being referred to a specialist to narrow down the medication to treat and control the appropriate your diagnosis. Don't worry its just the term they call it.
You'll get good care.

I suppose I am just a natural worrier and what the long term holds.

For many years now I went crossfit 3 times a week, swim 2 morning a week, more recently haven't been as I just feel rough all the time.

5 weeks now been taking 4 metformin and 2 gliclizide (split morning and evening). Some days my sugars go to 4/5 before food, but soon as I eat they shoot up and very minimal carbs in meals too. Definitely seen an improvement in sugars since starting the gliclizide, but then have a constant sicky feeling.

Not sure if anyone else thinks the same, but I just want to feel normal... constantly feel run down, tired and fed up of prick finger, eat 2hours prick finger etc etc... then other days I think it could be worse I have a condition that is manageable.

We have a weekend away and the hotel includes a lovely meal in their Thai restaurant and now worrying that eating that will put sugars silly.

I feel exactly the same, a bit run down. But not on glicazides.
My levels are around 8-10 before meals and shoot up to 12-14 depending what I've eaten.
I ride every other weekend on my mountain bike x country for 2-3hours. It seems as my levels get closer to the recommended 4-7. It takes longer to recover after excercise.
This may be why your MODY. It is a different classification to "type 2". You don't fit the standard profile, nor I, so you may need to see a MODY specialist.
I can only guess, maybe if your getting readings of 4/5 after 2 hours of food consumption and with glicazides. It maybe to low a reading for you. I always felt sick going that low. I function better on the upper end 6-8. But thats me. Its your body and it tells you how it feels.
What dosage is it? Can you change it?
Obviously the insulin is blocking the nutrients getting to your blood, hence the tiredness.
As for your weekend, maybe go for a long stroll after dinner or plan somethink active after the meal to burn off the indulgence. Try everything you like, but have a smaller portion. I wouldn't stress, I have a guilty pleasure now and again, but balance it out with excercise to get my levels down.
Don't beat yourself up if you fall of the wagon now and again, think of it as a reward for all the hard work you put in so far, your in control and you've done really well by the sounds of things ie good levels 4/5.
Stay focused on the positives, try not to dwell on the 'what if this or that'. Address every situation as it arises. Everyday will be diferent, we all have our ups and downs. Thats the rollercoaster of life.
I have my annual check up soon, so I will find out more about MODY.
Enjoy your weekend.
