Hi I was diagnosed type 2 just over two years ago and prescribed 2000mg slow realwase metformin.
HB1c was 36 when diagnosed, down to 29 after 12 months.
Bought my own glucose testing machine as the GP didn’t think I needed one.....it’s been invaluable in finding the foods that cause a spike for me (bananas, seedy bread, mashed potatoes mainly) and foods that I can eat (some fruits, green veg, fish, chicken, pork scratchings)
I had a bout of feeling depressed and bursting into tears for no reason six months ago so the GP reduced my dose to 1000mg.
Glucose levels up slightly from 6-8 most of the time to 9-11.
In August was diagnosed with angina so put on statins, aspirin and beta blockers as well. Two weeks ago I had a very traumatic angiogram and my glucose readings continue to be out of kilter. First ting they are not below 10-12, after a breakfast of scrambled egg and nothing else they are still 8-11 at lunch time.
My gut reaction would be to increase the metformin myself and see how it goes for a week.
The practice nurse is next to useless and the GP needs booking four weeks before you need to go......I am going next week.
Any help would be great.
