Hello Everyone

I'm in India

I'm now 45 years of age I was diagnosed with type2 when I was 29

I really need practical advice

My Blood Creatinine value is currently 1.2 (maxed out) for the last 5 years or so

Normal levels should be 0.6 to 1.2
(http://www.medicinenet.com/creatinine_blood_test/page2.htm#what_are_normal_blood_creatinine_levels)

But my creatinine varies sometimes like 1.1 to 1.2 for the last 5 years.

My doctor insists I proceed using metformin daily.

But ignoring his advice for the last 2 years I had stopped metformin for 2 reasons

1) Severe stomach upsets, I tried metformin tablets XR , ER everything and varied their timings but of no use. The next day surely my stomach gets upset
2) I keep reading everywhere that metformin affects the kidneys and my creatinine value is already maxed out i.e 1.2 so I'm really afraid

Currently I'm only on insulin 30/70 injections morning 8units and night 8 units

But my biggest worry is for the last year or so my HBA1C value is about 9 to 10.5 and never below 9

I'm caught in a dilemma metformin will surely bring my A1C value under control but what about my kidneys it is already 1.2 ?

What about the severe stomach upsets which forces me to stay at home and make me not go to office for many days in a week?

I'm using only insulin 30/70 now

Please help me. has anyone used metformin when their kidney creatinine value was 1.2 ?

I'm afraid that I have no knowledge of managing diabetes through injecting insulin - so I cannot contribute anything on that subject!

All I can do is ask about your diet. You don't mention carb control. Have you tried it? Has it helped at all?

Speaking from experience (of a much milder, non insulin-dependent situation), I have found that diet has had more effect than anything else.

I couldn't get on with metformin, either.

Hi. Metformin is not vital for those on insulin as it only has a small effect. If you are having problems with it there is little point in continuing with it. With regard to your insulin if you are having blood sugar control problems with your meal patterns then do ask your GP to move you to a Basal/Bolus regime. It provides far better control. It does have the disadvantage of two insulin types and pens and at least one more injection. As Brunneria says, you need to tell us more about your diet. Having a lower-carb diet will always help reduce sugar swings and mixed insulins need more clearly defined/predictable meals

seriously you should try low carbo, low sugar diet. saw a chinese man at the verge of kidney failure. he got gastric bypass which saves him.

Hi, i just what to make you aware, i m not a doctor, but my sister and neice are type 1 since they were kids, and over the years i have seen that frequent injections cause swelling in the lower belly or where you inject. I dont mean to frighten you, just make you aware.

watch your BG/insulin but try not eating any grain or grain product for a month and see how you are
eat everything else. lots of non-starchy veg and fat/ghee butter.coconut oil etc LCHF

I have reduced carbo in my diet for now. Thanks for all the answers. WiIl post my new results in a couple of weeks. Thanks again.
I'm going to stay away from metformin for now since my kidney creatinine is 1.2 already.

as well as asking stuff here, also for the next couple of weeks I would study plans and talk to your Dr, of what may be a better way of treatment.
Initially, cutting all grain/product is just a very simple way to cut a lot of carbs, read up about low carb diets and LCHF.

also read up about bolus/basal and talk to your Dr because you may get finer control of your daily BG [this is in the USA number range, but there would be other educational material]
