Hi I was just hoping to get some advice about 90mins ago I just finished my meal and just did my blood test out of curiosity and it 5.9 on the reading is this good? I've been pushing my diet a bit more as my nurse said if I could get my test lower I could potentially come off the medication and kind of been stressing about it lately. And was just curious

Hello and welcome @Jaccurr96 .
I would be happy with a reading of 5.9 after eating.

What was your meal? How are you ‘pushing diet a bit more’?

5.9 after eating is a perfectly healthy number.
What medication are you on, do you know what your hba1c currently is?

If you're in the diabetic range, your higher numbers are not likely caused by the type of meal you just had.

What about doing some more testing before and after different meals to find out what meals make you rise?

Last one was 31 and metformin and dapagliflozin. No it some homemade southern fried chicken and salad nothing different to what i would normally have for evening meal I was concerned as in the morning I have a toasted bagel with small amount of butter and salad wrap for lunch and was concerned with all that on top of it.

Hi @Jaccurr96 ,
When were you diagnosed?
And your hba1c is 31?
What was the previous.
And yes the reading you got is good.

Last one was 31 and metformin and dapagliflozin.
Your hba1c is very much in the completely non diabetic region on your current medication and diet.
I've been pushing my diet a bit more as my nurse said if I could get my test lower I could potentially come off the medication
I'm puzzled, how much lower does she want it to go before reducing meds?
However, the dapagliflozin makes you pee out excess glucose, so it may well be that if you decide to come off that you'll need to cut some of the carbs.

This what I've heard from others that are confused at how low she wants the value to go. And thanks for the advice on the carbs

I agree with the others, you need to speak to your GP, and the low carb is always a good idea.
An hba1c of 31 is well within normal levels.
