Hi all I am type 2 and late late year had a bit of a scare when I had a hospital test for something else but they checked my sugars in case they had to do more, they were off the scale at 35+, I ended up being kept in overnight on an insulin pump, it took 18 hours to get it below 20, I was discharged with a new meter and test strips, my doctor is great, I started eating to my meter which with medication got me back in control, I have to take metformin and glyclazide now, I got another meter from Bayer though a free scheme which is great and easier to use than the hospital issued one as it lets me make simple notes with each test.
The biggest help is my doctor prescribed 100 tests a month so I don't run out as 3 - 4 tests a day is using up most of the strips as prescriptions are free on NHS just get medical card, and Bayer are great at supporting diabetics, ensuring your meter is always in good order and reasonably up to date
