Hello, I'm new to this and I'd appreciate any help and advice. I never ever thought I'd be diabetic because I'm as thin as a lawn rake. Weirdly, I got type 2 diabetes for my 70th birthday last August and I feel sure it's probably a blessing in disguise. How do I put on weight?

Hi @&y&y and welcome to the forums.

I'm probably not the best one to answer this as I'm T1 but I thought I'd at least give you a welcome before (hopefully) some T2s post.

The traditional answer is to increase fats and proteins. Can I ask what sort of diet you have at the moment and has your weight decreased since your diagnosis?

Hi and welcome to the forums. It helps people to reply to you if you can give them some idea of your condition - what your HbA1c was, what you eat, weight/size, what medication you take. Other health conditions might be relevant too - some people have difficulty doing exercise, for example.

Personally, I always found when younger that I could bulk up muscle easily through protein and exercise: I switched to a "healthy" very high carb diet as officially recommended in later life and became diabetic. Low carb/keto has been very successful since.

These forums are a great source of advice and support.
