I do not have diabetes
Hi. I have family history of late onset diabetes, I’m over weight and had big babies( no gestational diabetes) - so monitoring blood levels is something I periodically check. This week not felt great so thought would do some fasting checks. Every morning this week my readings have been between between 7.2 and 7.6 after a minimum of 8 hours fasting over night.
Is this something I need to get checked out?

thanks for any advice

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

My brother was around where you are on the BG scale, he went for an HbA1c test and was on the cusp of being pre-diabetic. He knew that in a couple of years down the line he'd become a full-blown diabetic. Rather than get saddled with the diabetic label he bought himself a blood glucose meter and started testing everything he was eating for spikes. Since the beginning of June he's now pulled away from that cusp and has lost 16kg in the process.

Think if I were you, I'd organise a HbA1c test with your GP and take it from there. It wouldn't do you any harm, and actions now could improve your future health.

Good luck with your test, you're wise to be proactive on this.

Bit of a catch-22 here. If you're not feeling great, a cold or something could be driving your morning glucose up a bit. Or you could be feeling off because your blood sugars are up. So try not to worry just yet, okay? Getting a HbA1c done regularly with diabetes in the family isn't a bad idea anyway, might as well get one organised now.

Just to confuse and muddy the waters a tad.
Dawn phenomenon can impact fasting bloods as well.
If you have a late breakfast rather than testing when you get out of bed, you will get a better fasting bloods done then, before eating.
But if you are worried, an hba1c test is not a bad idea!
