Unwell diabetic?

Good evening all

I am fully aware that you can't diagnose but your opinion would be appreciated before i go running off to the docs.

I have been feeling unwell for a few weeks with the usual virus, tonsillitis, sticky eyes etc. I thought i would test my urine just incase. As my dad is type 2 diagnosed age 47 we had some in the house. However, they were some what out of date but i tried anyway. As you can guess they changed colour so i put this down to them being out of date. I purchased some new ones and was supprised to find this too changed colour allbeit only slightly.

As my dad was away i could not test my blood so for a few days i tested my urine about 2 hours after food. Sometimes it changed and others were ok.

Now my dad is back i decided to test my urine (which was negatve) then my blood 8.8mmol 1 hour after eating going down to 7.8mmol at 2 hours. Oh and 5.1mmol before food.

I am thinking this is fairly normal/borderline.
I think i will keep testing urine and if it changes then test the blood.

Any advice appreciated :-\

I would go to the docs and have a test done. I remember that few monts before diagnosis i had my sugar levels checked and it was somethning about 8. they told me to watch my diet but just few months later I ended up in hospital with type 1.
No reason to panic as your readings are not very high but worth checking

Hi thanks for the reply. I suppose if i had not checked i would be none the wiser as i don't seem to have any real symptoms. I have always had a weak bladder so can't say if there has been a change and i alway drink lots of water. If i have any symptoms i would say itchy skin other than that nothing really.

I don't want to go running to the docs and them to say its ok. Then a month later go again if things are still not right.

I will keep a close eye on this. :-)

Hi once again

Just an update as I am feeling a bit low at the moment. I went out for a Chinese with some friends tonight, I know really stupid. When i got home I tested my blood sugar, Just to keep a check, don't want to be obsessive about it. Any way I had eaten quite a lot carb heavy. My blood sugar at 2 hours was 8.4 anyway thought that was ok as had a lot of carbs. Later I felt very itchy and a bit tingly so i did one more. (don't want to use all the test strips) and at 3.5 hours it was 9.0. should I be more worried or is this normal for high carb food. Is it likely to keep rising and what should I do.I could try to get an appointment next week not sure.

I think my family especially my father will be so disappointed if I have t2. I am 36 female and overweight.I am surprised as I did the atkins for 6 months last year.

please help. sorry if i sound like a hypochondriac

thanks x :(

Calm down.
To err is human and we all sometimes slip
My Achilles heel is sticky toffee pudding!
Go for a long walk in the morning and retest, drink plenty of water too and i bet you you'll have a better result:-)

Go and get the test... The sooner you find out, the sooner you can control it :) although it still takes time to understand it all!!!

I would go and get a test from the GP simply because that is quite a simple thing to check and it would stop you having to guess and speculate. For what it's worth, and you can make of this what you want, your blood sugars both pre and post meals are almost identical to mine right now - I was diagnosed T2 in January with an HbA1C equating to average blood sugars of 11mmol; have changed my diet to under 50g carbs per day, and am on Metformin 500mg per day.

PS I've lost a lot of weight on the low carb diet too x
