Being ill, my stretch marks, mess, being confused,
Okay so last time I posted I was hugely confused about everything. But after a successful visit to my gp today I'm finally getting somewhere with medical help on top of the amazing advice from people on here.

So I'm still not 100% certain which type I am but neither is my doctor. He is however certain that I am diabetic. He's referring me for eye screening and to Desmond. Also yet more blood tests if my levels are still as high as the last two then he will be putting me on medication and contradictory to what the nurse and previous doctor told me he is thinking of metaformin as a starting point for me. Also I suffer from an extremely itchy hot foot during the night with no obvious reasons so the doctor has put it down to high sugar levels.
My doctor also won't allow me to come off the anti depressants until we have a handle on the diabetes but compromised with me and lowered the dose. Ideally I want to come off all my medicines if I can.
I take my bs up to 7 times a day occasionally more (generally post exercise) and my average bs level is around 11-13. I feel rubbish if it goes below 8 all I want to do is sleep.
The people I work with aren't being very supportive as they think that I am testing to often eating the wrong things, and unable to control what I eat. Although I've not yet attended Desmond I know that I am eating things that I should from advice on here and from my diabetic mother!

HI and welcome
You have such a positive attitude that you will do well and it's good that your mother is able to give you advice and support as well.

Thank you for the welcome pinkorchird. I have learnt that without a positive attitude things get worse but with a positive attitude everything seems so much less of a battle. Also learnt that with a great support network around you that makes life so much easier.

So pleased to see that things are settling down for you, and you are starting to make some progress.

Hi. As a generalisation, if you are overweight then the diagnosis is more likely to be T2. If slim and younger then T1 becomes a possibility. Metformin is a good start medication if you have excess weight as it helps reduce insulin resistance from excess weight. If T1 then other tablets are more relevant. I might tend to reduce the number of tests you do a day and ensure there is an objective . Keep the carbs down and smoothed during the day to help smooth your blood sugar. Protein, fats and veg are better than carbs.

The main reason I'm currently testing so often is get a grasp on how different foods effect my levels. Pasta for example actually drops my levels (odd I know). But otherwise I eat pretty clean I've been a fitness freak for years but one of my other health issues caused a significant increase in my weight due to side effects of medications. I went from a size 8/10 to a size 18 in the space of two/three months.
But the information about types and medications is very helpful

Hi it sounds like you are on the right track. Disregard what people at work are saying. It takes time for your body to adjust to lower BS level which is why you feel tired if it goes below 8. Im sure you will one day be off your meds
