So after having a blood test and found hba1c 53
I went to see my doctor for his advice and kind of peace of mind that I can beat this and bring my levels down if I maintain a healthy lifestyle

Instead soon as I get in he says right here some metformin take one in morning and one at night and u will be fine

I was like urm but what about diet and exercise which I have upped since last week and he says yes of course stop eating sweet things and u will be fine

I was in shock and then I had to quarrel with him to get some test strips it was like I was having an argument with my dad lol
In end he prescribed them

sincerely disappointed with the gp
I didn't even get to tell him about some symptoms and other things
He then went on to say that I will be diabetic forever and one day exercise and healthy eating won't work?

Is this the case ?

Not at all.....I went on two programmes. Walking Away From Diabetes which dealt with diet, firmly stressing that it isn't just your sugar intake but your carbohydrates as well (and that some carbs release their energy more slowly so these are better for you).
The other course was at the gym Exercise Your Options where a program was devised for me taking into account my fibromyalgia and arthritis and tho I had to pay, for the first three months was a third of normal price. You dint have to take meds and you CAN reverse it....
The exercise reduces insulin resistance and low carbs means less blood sugar

Are you saying that Type 2's don't need to test so shouldn't pester GP for strips on prescription maybe?
Well I test and I'm pre. Did get into normal range but suspected I'd be back in pre. Slipped down the side of the wagon, didn't fall off completely though back on track now

Yes,it's not a game some people have to test upto ten times a day and still have big problems with control, popping a couple o tablets is a lot of peoples dream.

Exercise is not gonna cure you but taking your medication will help also why pester for prescriptions you don't need
I rated your post as funny because you were joking weren't you either that or in the time you have spent here you've learnt nothing a proper diet exercise if possible and pestering our GP's for decent treatment has every thing to do with improving our situation. And it is possible to achieve remission of our condition for many people.

Well I test at least 3-5 times a day and am determined not to pop any pills thanks. I am well controlled by diet alone.
Luckily I can afford to fund my own strips and do but that doesn't mean everyone else can. Testing blood glucose after eating is the only way that Type 2's can find out what spikes their sugars.
I see you are a newby here so suggest you read around a bit before being too judgemental.

What I don't understand is why being diagnosed as diabetic makes people stop eating excess sugar and start exercising, unless hundreds o thousands o folk are laying about eating sugar until illness starts.

Why would you expect people to continue with a life style that is going to male their condition worse even if they pop a little pill?

Come on JPS, don't like to be rude, but get a grip. DIET & EXERCISE are our passport to a diabetes free future life......ok, tons of people can slob and gorge on sugary carby foods and suffer no ill effects (or probably do but don't go to doc so aren't diagnosed) but being diagnosed, we have the means to take our health into our own hands and change for the better WITHOUT a rattle of medication.
End of lecture. Have a good evening

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
Some people expect NHS to just supply meds when ill and do nothing to help themselves. I've met a few....
I have multiple illnesses now and try and treat them all... Through thorough analysis of my diet, nutrition and exercise.
The list of illnesses I've had diagnosed and then undiagnosed is long... And I believe firmly that it is vital to get all round nutrients for our bodies. And exercise.
And to help ourselves.
When I listen to others I feel as if I'm odd!! I don't lnow of any other person that has analysed like me. They have relied upon drugs, chemo, rads and watching them eat or shop amazes me...

But its not excess sugar is it? It's carbohydrate which everyone is told to eat using the Eatwell plate. Starchy carbs with every meal. Unless you are prepared to do a lot of research and ignore what the majority of doctors or diabetes nurses tell you to do then your type 2 will simply get worse and become the progressive condition that the doctors so often describe. With bad advice being given out by health care professionals is it surprising that people become reliant upon medication. I'm really not sure what you are trying to say but your comments are in the most part wrong and seem to be starting some kind of "my diabetes is worse than your diabetes" argument which is both unhelpful and unnecessary. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?
