Hi everyone,

I’m 23, I have a bmi of 22.5 so not overweight.

I have been weeing a lot for the last 3 days a lot more than usual and even when I don’t go my bladder feels full and a sense of urgency. I was worried about diabetes so brought a blood sugar monitor to test. Please can you tell me if these figures are worrying or ok? I haven’t been able to do a morning fasting blood sugar yet.

First reading- Midday hadn’t eaten for about 3 hours- 5.4

Then ate a sweet millionaire shortbread bake to test.

1 hour after shortbread- 5.3
90 mins after- 6.8
2 hours after- 7.1

I will test in the morning but feeling quite panicked?

Hi,

We can't realy diagnose you on the forum. You should check an appointment with your doctor...
Especially if you feel you have a urinary infection.

A random BG test with shortbread is not conclusive you have diabetes.

Best wishes.

In general those numbers look OK.. BUT. It's only a snapshot in that instant..

It's possible to have individual readings that are OK.. But the next they could be massively wrong.. A gp blood test gives a wider picture

Either visit your gp. Or a online eConsult if available.. List all symptoms and how you feel... Needing to pee.. Or feeling like you need to could have many causes.. So only a gp can find out and diagnose

Goodluck

@confused123x please visit a doctor as soon as possible.
My Type 1 diabetes was misdiagnosed as a UTI.
With that in mind, I would strongly advise against self/google diagnosis and get yourself checked out.
Type 1 can come on quickly and you can end up in hospital.

Is there a reason why you suspect type 2 but not Type 1? Given your age and BMI, usually, Type 1 would be more likely.
It may not be diabetes but, in your shoes, I would not be taking the risk.

Is this because of the symptoms or my blood sugar readings? I dont think it would be type 1 from my readings.

Of course it could t1 go through a honeymoon period where they can still produce insulin

Sorry if Im naive (which I definitely am) but my readings to my knowledge aren’t in the high or pre diabetic range so even though I’d be in the honeymoon type 1 phase I assumed they’d be higher

Not if your pancreas is spluttering working some days not others.. days it working you could have perfect readings

Which is why a blood test by gp would be needed for a 3cmonth average

I strongly advise against speculating and get yourself checked by a doctor.
If it is a UTI you will probably get some antibiotics and peace of mind.
