Well I have massages, facials, waxing, fake nails and I live to tell the tale! never been told no because of my diabetes- I have been going to the same place for 15 years - I find having psoriasis is more of an issue than diabetes- e.g. Creams etc
That a girl...

Okay due to confusion actually rang and spoke to the lady I use for massages, she says it down to you, if you were to be scratched or easily bruised during treatment it will take longer to heal etc, but if you sign their form she is happy to treat. Rang diabetes nurse at hosp, she has never heard of the restriction and she asked a colleague who never heard of it... so to your own discretion safe to carry on! Sorry for the false alarm or fake news people lol

Massages are in the same category as hot wax. Greater heat increases the action of insulin.
I love massages so have them without issue and do not have to lie about being type 1! Hate waxing so that is a good excuse. Also never wanted to be a chimney sweep or fly a plane. Was a bit disappointed to find that I cannot get piercing/tattoos! Something to do with the risk of infection. I am sure thre are many other prohibitions which we may safely ignore provided we understand the reason for them and therefore how to manage the risk.

I've got/had both tattoos and piercings (tongue mainly, I removed it last year) and touch wood had no issue.

I'd never heard that, but it's probably something to be listed alongside exercise i.e. simply be aware of the effect.
I wouldn't consider it a no-no. Working hard in the garden vs sitting watching tv could be similar in effect.

Like the article.
I wonder if my Endo could give me a prescription for massage when ever my glucose is high. Or better yet, a note for work....if glucose above whatever, she needs to take an emergency massage break. ;). A girl can always dream!
