Using a Ketone Tester for sugar in drinks?

I went out tonight and only ordered one drink, vodka and diet coke. I get home and my blood sugar is around 20, I'm thinking the waitress didn't give me diet despite me over-emphasizing the fact I wanted it (has anyone else had that problem?). I know there is a way to check for sugar in drinks but I've not done it before, can anyone enlighten me?

hi,

This has happened to me before but i can usually tell by the taste of it. And drinking normal coke makes me sick      so i am vigilant when i go out

You need urine glucose testing strips rather than keytone strips...

Apparently you need to mix some of the food/drink you are testing with some saliva (it requires enzymes to activate the strip) and dip the strip into it. A bit of dribble on a spoon should do it.

I have never tried it. I remember reading the advice in Bernstein's book.

Hi Emmaayziing and welcome to the forum, this question has been asked many times here and the consensus of opinion seems to be to only ask for bottled diet drinks as you have no way of knowing if the pub, restaurant manager has even fitted the right container to the right line and as mistakes do happen to is also impossible to ensure that you are served the right drink if it is.

Only buy bottled mixers or take your own

Yes you can use ketone strips, (they usually show both glucose and ketones. If,like me,) you have ketone strips that you only use infrequently its a use for them before they run out :D
There isn't any need to do any tasting, and spitting (ugh) just dip it into a small sample of the drink. Many people just dip, and that's probably fine but the strips themselves have chemicals on them which may(???) leach into the drink.
Normally, I just watch the person like a hawk if they're using a machine (to be fair only once have I spotted someone using the wrong machine). Then just to be doubly sure I get my OH to taste first...bit like my official poison taster
