Hello, looking for some advice regarding lows. Im not sure why I'm not unwell I'm not eating less im not exercising more or anything but sugars have been really low for around a week I'm barely having to take insulin with food. I've tried lowering my background and still just keep going low having on average 4/5 a day. it's really not like me at all there had been zero changes to settings as well I've changed sensor and set. Type 1 for 18 years on a medtronic pump with guardian 4 sensor. Has anyone had this before?

Hi @izzie1234 and welcome to the forums.

Just a thought, and pretty unlikely, but I assume these are hypos as measured with a glucometer and you are just not relying on the reading from the G4?

Have you done basal testing to recheck your background needs? And it does sound like a good reason to contact your clinic.

I'm just about to start on my pump journey so I'll leave it to others to make pump related suggestions.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum @izzi1234 I use a Tslim pump with Dexcom G6 and occasionally have days like that. Did it happen to coincide with you starting a new vial of insulin at all?

Very interested to hear from izzi1234 what happened next because I’m just having the same experience. I’ve reduced my Tresiba down from 15.5 to 14 and it seems like I’m getting stability inbetween eating and overnight, but I’m still not able to take what I’d call a “proper” ratio with my meals. Last night I ate 68g carb and took 2 units. It’s still corrected me. Meaning my evening meal ratio is 1:40!!! After it’s run through me the new 14 dose of Tresiba has held me totally flat on 6.8 through the night.

So not only have I had to cut down my background and re calibrate, I’m hardly needing and fast acting. Friday night I went out for a meal and took no fast acting whatsoever because I was walking home. I still was 7.9 overnight.

It’s just happened out of the blue. I’ve been diagnosed for 13 years so not honeymoon. I was alerted to it overnight about a week ago with double straight down arrows on my Shuggah app saying fast drop and my alarm going off. . I had to eat 80g carb at intervals to turn it round. I was as astonished as anyone could be. It doesn’t make any sense.

So I’ve spent the last week recalibrating and trying to stay safe - not too low and not too high.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced something this severe?

I’ve just remembered this happened to me once before a good few years ago, at a similar time of year oddly. My endo suspected addison’s disease but the test came back negative.

Is it possible it is related to your monthly cycle? I don't know how long you have been pumping but before I was pumping when my control wasn't good I never noticed any change during my monthly cycle but once settled on a pump I started to notice a real change and for me the week before my period I go insulin resistant, never all day and various time slots which change every few months and mid cycle I go insulin sensitive for about a week and have to cut my basals back. As I said with bad control I never noticed this pattern but now it is very obvious and something I've learnt to adjust too. So grateful to have a pump to allow me to deal with it!

In my case it won’t be monthly cycle related as I’m into the menopause now. But it could definitely be hormone related due to the menopause I guess. I’m on MDI so just having to feel my way through it. My evening meal ratio last night was still 1:40. It’s a bit of a challenge being so sensitive.
