Variation in test results

I am using a bayer contour usb meter but my clinic wishes to introduce a Gluco RX nexus meter, mainly for economic reasons.

When taking a blood sugar test the Bayer unit reads 10mmols and the Nexus reads 16.5. Both meters and strips are within range on a control solution test but the Nexus is at the high end of the scale and the Bayer in the middle of the scale. Can anyone explain this discrepancy?

That's quite a big difference but meters are only a guide and have tolerances of 15-20% or so.

I bought a Gluco RX (cheap at Boots) way back when I first realised I could buy a monitor without a prescription.

It was dreadful. Very inaccurate, readings all over the place. Threw it away in disgust. I went on to use the Freedom Lite one, which stopped the insanity immediately - very reliable. And recently I've bought the Codefree, based on price. I don't think it is as accurate as the Freedom Lite, but it is sooo much cheaper.

Maybe they've improved the Gluco RX's accuracy since my wee tantrum (2.5 yrs ago)...?

Have you tried using a control solution with your meters?
