Plain fish, tripe, porridge, pasta, boiled rice,
I really really loathe and detest ALL green leafy vegetables. I really really like all the others.
I can just about manage cauliflower mashed with cream and cheese and lots of pepper, but as a substitute for plain mashed potato even that is a pale copy - ditto for sweet potato and celeriac. I do eat greens but its like taking nasty medicine. ;)
I can't say I'm having any problems with my bloods (unless I cheat on a grand scale when they'll go through the roof) but I wonder if Ishould invesst in some vitamin tablets. My GPs no help, and although the diabetic nurse is pro low carbing and promises to be available at 'any time' I just can't seem to reach her. If you personally didn't like greens - what would you do?

I know what you mean.. I really loathe and detest eating All meat and fish products ...so I don't eat them ... If your worried take a vitamin pill .. But if your feeling well and your bs is under control then mabe your ok without your greens .. Others will say different ..

So do you get your protein from cheese and eggs?

You will also be missing out on Fibre if you don't eat the leafy stuff, but then again @NoCrbs4Me seems to thrive on only eating T Bone Dinosaur steak so I'm probably wrong.

I was just about to post regarding fibre from veggies too, but I certainly get plenty of "bulk" from nuts and stuff like flax seed, and do notice if I cut down on these - so they're another option for any possible bowel issues.

Robbity

So are you saying - tough, so you don't like the taste and texture, so what - eat them regardless? Do you like tripe? No? What if I told you - You MUST eat some every day, and a lot of it.
(ps my bowels are fine thanks, having trouble with yours? ... maybe you're getting too much fibre :-) )

Hey - that wasn't meant to be as agressive as it sounds! Sorry!

I do eat cheese ...
And I am saying if you don't like something then please don't eat it ! We are all made slightly different.. I don't eat meat or fish, you don't eat greens ... If your healthy .. Don't let anyone pressure you in to eating something you are not happy with ... I have had many medical people telling me to eat animals and fish or I will be very ill.. Well here I still am ... Proving them wrong ... I do have kelp tablets every now and again .. Not sure why ! .. I just have them because the wife wants to take them every now and again .. About one bottle of a 100 tablets in a year ..

I personally don't like greens so I hide them in sauces and cheese and cream garlic (mmm) and things and eat them.
However I do like salads because I grow all the stuff, and so to boring old lettuce I can add basil, sorrel, parsley, chives, rocket and probably some odd bits of grass that get in by mistake (all washed in moving water of course). It's fun :).

Are you feeling all right ?

I'm not sure you have got the hang of this forum.

Most people are just trying to help, and not one reply did anything other than try to offer support.

Ultimately it's your choice what you do or do not eat, and I personally couldn't care less.

Depends on why I need to eat the tripe really.

We all have to find a diet that suits us, if we don't like it, we're not going to stick to it.

But, if the tripe kept the complications at bay, and it's either eat tripe or amputate something.......

Usually multivitamins are a waste of money because food is a better, and adequate, source. But if you aren't eating veges then they could help. Get your iron levels tested first, as iron overload is fairly common and if you have it, you'd want to choose a multivitamin that doesn't have iron in it.

I realised as soon as I hit 'post' that the comment about tripe was just that - tripe - so I'm sorry if I offended any of you good people who are trying to help. (British Pub, I did try to apologise in the next post, obviously not enough - I was in NO WAY trying to be offensive, just feeling somewhat exasperated)
You must admit it is a bit annoying when professionals insist you eat stuff that makes you want to 'heave' - don't you think hiding it in sauces etc is a bit like your gran squashing up an asprin when you were a kid and hiding it in a spoonful of jam? (Favourite trick of my Gran's).
Am I forgiven?

Never try and eat what you really don't like food should be a pleasure to enjoy not treated like a nasty medicine that has to be taken
If you don't like greens...and there are countless people like you that don't like them... then I am sure what you do like will do just as well and you say your bloods are ok so that is all that matters

Incidentally I am someone who actually loves tripe cooked in milk with lots of onions but I have not had any for ages it is not easy to get these days

If you didn't like them prior to going LC, then certainly don't eat them now. I have always like them, so I eat them.

It takes a while to get the hang of it. Still, forcing yourself to eat things you don't enjoy will not be very satisfying. There are plenty of other acceptable vegetable options.

I hated fish, avocado and olives, tomato and feta cheeses for 50+'years but there are Ways to disguise foods to eat them.
You got to be prepared to try them. If like me your stomach is so bad you have to eat certain foods you do everything possible to eat those foods.

My favourite disguise is chilli sauce for most introductory foods....and mountains of olive oil dressing. I just introduce initially a little at a time
And increase probably every other day.

Yes I would try tripe with my chilli sauce if necessary. If something really isn't tolerable I wld take a supplement. I take dupplements anyway...

Pre low carb, I would only ever eat cauliflower with cheese sauce, but cutting out the root veg had me looking for other vegetables, and I ended up eating all sorts of vegetables that I wouldn't have contemplated before, because I found interesting recipes.

No way would I eat spinach as a boiled veg on the plate. I will happily chomp away on a frittata with spinach, watercress, sorrel and fresh herbs. I love Iranian starter Borani Esfanaj and we make tabbouleh using cauliflower.

Raw Brussels sprouts with the manky leaves taken off, are like tiny white cabbages and really tasty with mayo, pine nuts and crispy bacon lardons.

So I would say experiment, but if you hate something, don't eat it.
