I’m not sure if this is where I introduce myself or not, maybe someone could help me please
Hello @Thornliebank ,

You're right where you're supposed to be, and if you weren't, we have friendly moderators that can move a post if need be. There's not a whole lot you could do "wrong", that can't get fixed. :) Welcome to the club. Anything we can help you with?

Jo

Thank you Jo,
im gill
live in Hertfordshire
I’m 83
like many before lockdown I was very active,
a little less now.
was diagnosed this am by phone and not told anything , a friend looked at the report and said I was just on the
cusp of type 2
I know nothing about diabetes except it’s to do with sugar levels, Im guessing if I’m lucky I’ll get an appointment and be given some advise.
I also have diverticulitis so am very I very limited in what I can eat anyway.
so I will be looking for as much advice as I can get from this friendly forum , so thanks I. Advance.

Hi Gill, nice to meet you,

On the cusp of T2, I take it that means you're either prediabetic or borderline diabetic, and the assumption is T2. Okay, so, the bacis: People with Type 2 diabetes make a whole lot of insulin, but have become insensitive to it. That's why their blood sugars are higher than they should be. This can happen due to genetic predisposition and/or the use of medication (like statins or steroids), to keep it quite simple. Practically all carbohydrates turn to glucose once ingested, so the easiest thing to do is just cut down on carbs. I assume you are quite well-versed in what you can eat when it comes to diverticulitis, which I don't know much of anything about, so... https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help some get your diet sorted, just keep in mind to stick with the things that you can stomach. I have a couple of conditions to keep an eye on as well, so I know going from an already restricted diet to having another one overlapping, can be a bit of a puzzle. But oftentimes, it can be done.

Bottom line in any case: You're going to be okay. You're catching this thing early, and the odds of getting back into the normal range without the need for medication, are pretty good.

Hang in there eh.
Jo

Hi Gill, snap i have Diverticular disease as well. The funny thing is that after switching to eating low carb, it's been no problem for over 3 years now. to the point where i eat anything that is low carb without problems. Only on the rare occasions where i eat normal carby meals, due to slipping of will power, or just a situation where i think no todays a treat, these are the days where mild bloating and discomfort occur. Mild enough to be worth it for me.
