For the past 2 years I have had recurring days of fatigue. It seems to happen about every 6 weeks or longer and usually lasts for 2 days. The only way I can describe it is it is like the first day of 'real' flu where you have no symptoms but feel terrible. I've been sleeping for 12 hours a night and could sleep in the day also if I let myself and barely have the energy to move around. I started Monday this time and felt better today but have gone down again after lunch. My BG levels have been normal throughout.

Has anybody else had something similar with their diabetes or could this be a virus of some kind which hasn't cleared up.

Hi Lemonie.
Slightly confused here.......your last HbA1c is shown as 11.6%. You say your Bg's are all normal ?

You are describing classic symptoms of high blood sugar levels. Can you tell us what the levels are on waking, pre meal, 2 hrs post meals and before bedtime.

Might help us to get a better idea of what is going on......

Sounds like how I feel when I have high blood sugar.

hya,
as cugila said,if your hba is that high you are bound to feel terrible, if your bloods were in the normal range then id advise visiting your g.p for some blood tests :)

Hi sorry for not being clearer. I dropped my levels very quickly after being diagnosed and vary from 4.9 - 6.8 mainly staying in the 5's most of the time. I eat 80 - 100g carbs per day and follow low GI/GL with reduced portions to try and lose a bit of weight which is not working at all :?

Can we take it that the readings are post meal (2 hrs) ? You might have to drop your carbs even further to 'kick start' some weight loss and possibly up the exercise a bit. Every little helps !

As you have dropped the levels quite quickly that also may be a reason why you have no energy.

If after all this you are still listless etc......get a full examination from your GP with blood tests as there are many other things which are not Diabetes related which can cause this effect.

Let us know how you get on.

Lemonie,

It could be a number of things and not necessarily diabetes related. Mention this to your gp and ask for blood tests, iron deficiency springs to mind but as I say it could be anything causing your fatigue so do make that appointment.

I think I will make an appointment. I just feel like I am always bothering them as I have other things wrong as well.

Thanks for the advice.

hya lemonie,
i would get checked as the fact of tiredness and difficulty to lose weight may be many things including thyroid disorders which can go hand in hand with diabetes :D

Do you drink coffee, or anyt drinks with caffeine in? I've never drank caffeine before, but on days when I'm tired, I've started drinking a Sugar Free energy drink. The ones I get are 30p in Lidl.

Just perks me up enough...
