Vision changes again...

I was just recently diagnosed with Type 1, we thought it was Type 2 for the last 2 months. When I was originally diagnosed I was put on metformin (which I no longer take) and starting eating very low carbs... my vision started getting blurry and I had 3 different contact lens prescriptions over a two week period. As my levels stabled, my vision eventually got back to normal. Just the last few days my vision has changed again and it's blurry just as before. I've had stable levels (all 4s and 5s) apart from a couple of lower 3s (which make no sense to me either as I am not on any insulin or anything). Anyone have any ideas why this is happening again? I've had a bit of a cold and I'm feeling a bit stressed but otherwise nothing has changed. This whole thing is starting to scare the bejeesus out of me

It can take a while for your vision to settle down unfortunately.

It's possible the change to insulin and subsequent different sugars made your eyes re-adjust again. It should settle.

Thanks Azure! This is what I need to hear... I can battle through most things but vision loss is a hard one

The same happened to me when I started treatment. Fortunately the doctor warned me it might happen becuase it was an extreme shift in my vision which happened overnight and I would have been terrified. One day I had good close up vision, next next I literatally could not read a thing on my works computer. A colleague drove me to the local Boots, where I was able to buy some reading glasses. These did me for a about 3 weeks before my vision returned. Hang on in there, it may time a bit of time.

This happened to me too! Still happening now.. In August, sudden loss of clarity at distance resulted in me needing specs for distance... 2 weeks later my sight appeared to be normal again except for reading distance. I went back for another eye test and was prescribed reading glasses and advised to see my G.P. Here I am having been diagnosed as diabetic. My sight has since changed again.. now using reading glasses for seeing everything. without them my vision is blurred. My nurse said that once my glucose levels stabilise my sight should return to normal.

Hey @KezG
your nurse has it pretty much nailed -- as your blood sugars come in to range your eyes will be one of the victims of the change-- stick with it for about 6-10 weeks for it all to get back to normal

ps -- welcome to the forum too !!!!!!!!:)
