I am still low carbing. A bit erratically at the moment due to personal life events over the past week, and I can feel the tiredness and cravings creeping in. I want to stop the rot.

The thing is - I KNOW i am getting the nourishment I need from reducing carbs. I an not feeling tummy hungry. But I am struggling with feeling visually hungry. I see my plate with some cheese and a bit of salad, and my mind feels cheated. I didnt used to stuff myself, but I miss my bread rolls or jacket potato with my protein and fats.

I used to have an eating disorder, so need to get my head round this feeling of deprivation asap.

Any ideas?

I am not sure what i can suggest but i do understand what you are saying. sometimes i feel ridiculous at how possessive i can be with food and not being able to have certain foods - geniunly upsets me greatly...sometimes i feel like a two year old throwing a tantrum!!!!

i have issues with food as well and i think the reason why i cant seem to lose weight or stick to low carb and improve my BG is because there is something i still need to discover that makes me feel like this.

if you find an answer...could you please tell me :)

oh yes to the possessive. I have my section of the fridge now, and woe betide my husband or children if they transgress and eat something of mine

I think I feel as though there is so little i can eat now, especially as i am losing weight too so have to watch my quantity, that I feel a bit odd about food. sort of threatened if that makes sense?

maybe it will get easier when I dont have to count calories too.

Try making your food a "pretty" as possible. It might help how you feel about it

I sulked for a whole day when I discovered my kids had raided the fridge and scoffed all my mini peperami snacks!

i know the feeling...there is so much to consider...too many carbs, too many calories, too much fat...too much protein...i am trying to embrace cooking alternatives at the minute and i quite like it especially as i had a couple of successes.

i am trying to drink alot of water as well but to be honest i still just feel bloated and weight is not shifting....

I can recommend almond pancakes if you want something visually appealing. A 1 egg mixture makes 3 which you then stack on top of each other on a big plate, then pile blackcurrents and redcurrants and blackberries on top and finish by pouring double cream over the whole thing.

It looks and tastes fantastic and it doesn't spike me at all.

I also make a game out of finding how many things from the fridge I can add to a salad - make it as colourful as possible and just chuck it all in a tupperware pot together.

Hi Lucy,

I wonder if it is the fact that there are no nice smells coming from a plate of cold food? Cheese salad can be jazzed up with colours of the rainbow to look appealing but where is that smell that stimulates your appetite and makes you look forward to food?

A diet suitable for diabetics does not mean we are all munching through boring salads everyday. Try hot dishes using spices and herbs to get those taste buds moving and finding your food satisfying and enjoyable. Something as simple as a homemade soup, chicken and vegetables for example,, can make you feel that you have eaten something worthwhile as it is filling.

Thank you catherinecherub. Ooohhh - Chicken and Veg soup!!! :D

just the thing for this Summer. I think I have got into the idea of Summer=salad, but soups sound good.

I am allergic to almonds, but everything else people have suggested sound do-able.

Is Bovril good/ok? That smells good and tastes good.

I eat loads of raw peppers and always try to have two different coloured ones at each meal to make a really colourful plate.

I love a mug of hot Bovril when I fancy something savory to drink.

A 5gm teaspoon of Bovril gives us :-
Calories 10
Total Fat 0.2g
Carbohydrates 1.4g
Protein 0.5g

You have saved my dieting life - Bovril is OK!! pnew!!! that help. The smell of Bovril reminds me of tea with my grandparents. A very happy smell.

This is a trick that I myself use and do...
Have 4 small cottage cheeese on crackers then pile a pretty mini salad arrangement
alongside them.
Seeing it so neat and pretty makes it more enjoyable to enjoy if you see what I mean!
Always works a treat with me...
Anna.

Lucy can I suggest Marigold Swiss Bouillion Powder? I use it primarily for adding flavour to soups and stews, especially anything chicken based, ityis a lovely golden yellow colour so looks appealing. A few veggies of your choice, some bits of chicken, maybe boiled bacon and some Bouillon is yum. It is also pretty tasty on it's own as a drink.
I can't bear stuff that tastes bleurgh, weak and wishy washy..I like food to have robust flavours, that way I don't feel I need as much "filler" to compensate..does that make sense?

I don't count carbs just try to keep to less than I used to have. Tonight we had some soup made from the cooking liquid from our gammon joint, some left over stir fry veg mix (sounds vile but it was ok!) and I added a some red lentils to thicken it a bit..makes it more substantial and less likely to make you eye up the crusty white. :D

Claymic, very cold water is more beneficial. Water contains no calories or anything else for that matter. If it is cold then your body heats it up to body temperature. Your body has to use it's energy store to do this, getting nothing back. Net effect, weight loss. ( I didn't say a lot !! )

I like to have a colourful salad and usually use a combination of baby leaves and iceberg lettuce or spinach to keep costs down (especially if I've bought more spinach than I need for another meal) with cucumber, red onion, orange or yellow pepper and cherry tomatoes. However, I've also had some out recently with hot roast veg - don't know whether you can do extra and reheat as needed?

Sometimes, like today, we'll have something hot with it. I used some frozen 1/4lb burgers from Tesco (Aberdeen Angus beef salt and pepper) £1.79 for 4 or chicken or omelette. If I have cheese I usually have ham as well and cut the hame into small squares and grate the cheese over the top. It just looks more appetising that way.

The only thing I've banned the kids from eating is my sugar free jelly - but we are getting through an awful lot of salad veg at the moment. They've seen what I'm eating and decided it looks nice (and if I'll prepare it for them even better!). I just try to ensure I make the most of any offers in the supermarket (and coupons) and try not to throw anything away. (We're truly horrified when we hear that the average family thows several hundred pounds of food away each year!)
