Hello, I recently have been prescribed lantus as my sugars have been uncontrolled for about a year, last HBA1c was 92 - I've just upped my units to 20, but have literally just been sick. I've had headaches and feeling sick since using it. Has anyone else had these symptoms ? Just tested my blood and its 7.5 so not a hypo or anything. Just feeling really run down

I didnt get that when starting. How quickly have you increased the units? It should be fairly slowly or its a bit of a shock to the body. It could just be coincidental. dI'd put in a call to whoever prescribed the lantus just to be on the safe side or ask your pharmacist for advice.

Hello, thanks for your reply, I've been increasing two units every 3 days or even longer until my fasting level is below 6 - I'm nearly there on 20 units at the moment. I have been feeling sick since taking it and last night was the first time I was actually sick. Spoke to the pharmacist prior to being being sick and she said it's likely to be the insulin. Think if it persists I'll ring my diabetic nurse. Fingers crossed for tonight! Thanks again for your message.

Hi. Insulin doesn't usually cause this sort of problem but there are exceptions. You could ask the nurse to change you to Levemir which is the other popular Basal insulin and has slightly fewer problems.

hello, thanks for your reply- will see how I get on and if sick again I'll definitely be speaking to nurse, I've been running so high for the last year so was also wondering if the shock of coming back down to a more normal blood sugar reading could also make me feel poorly. Sure will settle in time. Thanks again for your reply.
