I have slept so much better since my diagnosis of diabetes and getting on medicine. Last night though for the first time in a while, I wake up to what I can only describe panic attack. Usually I know when I'm ramping up, but waking up with it is frightening to me, for close to a minute I'm awake, but it's as if I cant breathe and I'm confused and I have to "walk it off" until I'm more conscious and can convince myself I'm not dying. Does anyone have this issue?

Hi @Shelber.

Perhap not appropriate here,
But my wife suffered panic attacks.
Seemed to regain good control & composure when awake.

But still has similar moments you describe.
She wakes with a shout or gasp.

Once able, she too describes it like you do.
She hasn't seeked any help, so I'll be hoping some one who assist you, might just be of help to her as well.

Best wishes you find a resolution, must be an awful few moments and and such an unpleasant start to the day.

Hi Shelber, I note you have recently been diagnosed, have your glucose levels fallen recently and if so by what margin? Sometimes when you are used to running high (and I think you were quite high??), and then it starts to come down you can actually get symptoms that feel like a hypo. When I get a hypo the symptoms are similar to what you describe, ie it feels like a panic attack. Of course NONE of us know what is going on with you so I'm thinking you should really talk to a Dr just in case. x

When my blood sugar levels go low I feel anxious and panicky. I am used to panic attacks, and the low blood sugar levels feel similar.

Thanks for the responses. I have not notice my blood glucose levels dropping, but if I have another episode like that, I will definitely check right away.
