Walking To Mordor...

New update from my friend, likely the last one through me. :)
She's currently trying to sign up to the forum so she can post her own updates, but the forum software doesn't accept her for some reason. I trust the issue will be resolved in a few days though.

Hi, Banjer and I are back again. Ofcourse I got this covid virus and was of track for about 10 days. But sinds last thusday I started walking again. So far I walked about 12 km in 4 days (bye bye condition). Today was the first time togetther with my little big friend again. We made a nice 4 km! 2 weeks to go for the 25 km (it will be 15 trained and 10 on character as e say in the Netherlands). Well this is it for today. With a nice pic of Banjers but.

That would be nice :)

More solid weeks from the two scouts. I'm still holding up the rear ;)

Have my 2nd jab appointment on Thursday, so will probably aim to start swimming the following week. I've been having real problems with my arm, however, since the end of December (Trapped nerve), so that part of the plan is dependant on whether I can tolerate the various arm-movements. Of course, that shouldn't affect the walking part, so hopefully I'll start ramping up my daily steps at around the same time.

This has been another slow week. Will upload the data hopefully tomorrow

As promised, earlier in the thread, I cut my normal weekly steps. Didn't plan an amount, but it worked out at about half:

Day's totals: 4901, 3271, 591, 647, 7834, 6180, 405.

Week total: 23.829

Divided by 2000 steps (1 mile): 11.91

Sorry, did I miss something? Why have you decided to reduce your number of steps when you were doing so well? Are you recording incidental number of steps e.g. around the workplace? or are you recording the number of steps on a sustained walk? I record the latter, everything else is a bonus!

Well, I received a visit from the black dog, halfway through December. Tried to shoo him away, but he just pushed past me and has made a home for himself. And this trapped-nerve thing hasn't really helped.
Thought I'd give myself a deadline until i got my C19 passport before really starting on my fitness resolutions, and in the meantime just rest my body, do gentle stretching to try to work out the neck/arm issue.

Thought it might be a fun idea to see if I could affect my numbers with a 'cleaner' diet, and the reduced exercise Unfortunately, I didn't really account for how much missing my daily-walk would affect how I was feeling (I should know better, by now), and its knock-on effect with everything else.

Anyway...Had my 2nd jab today, and will get back on the horse next week.

And Im counting every step i take. So as long as the phone is in my pocket, it will keep counting

I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't been on top of things. I find that I feel so much better when I get outside and walk. Also high blood glucose levels are associated with low mood so anything that reduces blood glucose has a positive impact and I'm all for that.
Is there a Walking for Health group near you that could provide extra motivation and company? I find that making a commitment to walk with someone is a good motivator. As is being fit enough to run away from orcs.

Thanks for your concern :)

It's actually been an interesting experience. On an intellectual level it makes sense that I wouldn't feel as good as when I just get out and walk. but it took a while to make the connection with both the negative physical and mental repercussions. Wasn't really expecting my knees to start aching, or getting pain in my shins when walking shorter distances. It's only been a couple of weeks, and things have already started locking down.

As for motivation? Don't normally ever need it. Despite carrying 115 kilos, I've normally no issue in just getting out and at it. And I prefer walking solo, listening to podcasts etc.

What I'm really looking forward to is getting back in the pool. it's been quite a few years, but I used to be a very strong swimmer (Raced for school, as a youngster, but later in life concentrated on distance - Most I swam was 5 miles/320 lengths). Just need to get over the fact that in my swimming-shorts I look like a sack 'o' taters, ready-to-burst...and just get it done. I'll surely get fitter, though I'm not likely to be able to out-swim any angry orcs (Are orcs ever not angry?)

Latest update, had a couple of days reduced walking due to isolating due to cold (not Covid) but managed to keep going via other means. I believe I am past Rivendell and now on my way to Lothlorien. Cumulative total is 844.27km

2 weeks of data to upload. On Friday of the first week, I stayed at home, but forgot to out the phone in my pocket. Added 1k steps:

11522, 3647, 2507, 7567, 1000, 8377, 417 = 35.007 /2000 = 17.5 miles

4829, 2711, 2366, 5088, 4046, 5871, 1991 = 26.902 / 2000 = 13.4 miles

This week, will have to ramp up the daily distance, in preparation for Saturday's 25k. It's a bit far ahead to trust the weather forecast, but it looks like it won't be raining. Would be nice if I can get some barefoot beach-walking in as part of the distance :)

My left-arm is vastly improved. There's still some residual pain, but in a smaller area and I can now lift the arm on its own (Previously needed to use my right-arm to lift the left). Now that I have my C19 passport, I can technically start swimming. I'll probably still hold off for another couple of days (perhaps till beginning of next week) just to make sure I don't set the healing back.

Onwards and upwards!

Forgot to add the screenshots in the last post and it wouldn't allow me to add in the edit, so...

Glad to hear you are back on track. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! But this is not being back on track, unfortunately. These two graphs, along with last weeks are about half the distance I would normally walk...and about a quarter of the distance I need to cover, daily, to reach my goal by the end of the year.

Haha! Good Times!! :):)

will get back on the horse next week.
And speaking of horses, I have a new update from my friend (who still can't log in herself) and her furry friend on brand new sparkly walking shoes. :)
I also hope that walking your black dog regularly again will turn it into one of those always happy golden retrievers or such.
As for swimming, I'm about the same weight as you are (116 kilos) and I've decided I simply don't care about the tater look so I happily swim twice a week! You can bet on it that those other swimmers are more concerned with their own looks than with yours.

Hopefully a last update via Antje. Today a made a 10 km on my own. And a scheme to see how far I am on my way to Mordor. Oh yes, last week we bought shoes for Banjer. Because his hoofs where getting to short by walking all those kilometers.

Oh and how far I am.... 37 km, but I think I lost some kilometers somewhere.
