Hi.
My husband and I want to have a baby. We have a lot of barriers to get through first (not all diabetes relates) but I'm already 30 so I don't want to delay too long.
Problems are; I'm over weight. I have type one diabetes. The slightest hormonal change in my body messes my sugars up.
I've been without a diabetic nurse since my diabetic nurse left in November and I wasn't given a new one. I didn't make too much if a fuss at the time because I was doing my teacher training, so couldn't easily get time off my placement to see the nurse anyway,
Coupled with a severe drop in my testing strips allocation, the immense stress I was under, the illness and subsequent death of my mother in law and the lack of diabetic nurse, my sugars got steadily worse and worse.
I have managed to convince my doctor in increase my strips today, so I will have 200 strips a month now. Woo. But the doctor also said he won't refer me to the diabetic specialist for pregnancy until I get my sugars back under control. This week, I had been in a constant hypo.
I try to very hard. I have aspergers too, which is a form of autism. This affects what I can eat (bland food, and I tend to like the same things over and over). I have started to go swimming regularly, to try and lose weight. I enjoy swimming.
A type one friend has just had her baby, and I saw how much work she went though. So I know it will be a lot of work.
Who can advise me?
I inject, though we have been looking into getting the pump. I really want the insulin pump.
Anyway, all advice and support gratefully appreciated.
