WANTED: Volunteer to check my BG at 2am

I'm up and at it again. Ducking Fiabetes!

I've doubled basal this last week but it's had little effect on BG. Go to bed around 8, by 2.30 I'm up at 15/16 so take a correction.

I'm still 15/16 when I wake at 6.30.. Takes me until late afternoon to bring it down again with corrections

Every inch of me wants to boost that basal to 9 or 10 because I know it's probably needed. But I'll continue my slow and steady 0.5u raise per day until I get the right level.

Gunna be a zombie tomorrow!

I remember this well.

Honeymoon period ending maybe?

When this happened to me I kept thinking it was totally over but then my needs would go up a bit again. Seems to have levelled out now though.

Yep I think honeymoons on the way out!

Bolus ratios haven't changed, it jut seems to be the basal :(

At the time my Bolus and Basal both went up quite quickly.

I used to be on 9U Basal, 22U now.

I also never used to Bolus for breakfast or I would hypo, and quite often got away with just 1U for lunch.

Seemed annoying at the time but would love to be taking these quantities now.

1 or 2u bolus is still the norm for me!

Frustrating but you're doing the right thing. Slow steady increase and you'll get there soon. In some respect it's better if your honeymoon has ended. You should eventually get a more stable grip on "ducking fiabetes" :-)

Gosh Hale yr bg levels are definately on the 'up'. Good luck with the increasing. Not sue if 0.5 increase is a good idea tbh as its not doing much. I think I would chance 1.0 and then test and then increase to 1.5 etc.

I don't mind it ending, just wish it had waited until after pump assessment ;)

I'm going to basal test overnight on Friday I think. JHogg will LOVE the disturbed sleep ;) should give me a better idea on where I'm rising.

From experience I used to rise until 3am then drop until the morning. If I can prove that I'm still rising even once my basal is correct for during the day then I've got another good pump argument :)

I'm confused do all T1's have to test during the night ??

Personal choice really. On a general day no I don't. But if I've been particularly active then I will. Or if I've been high before bed and taken a correction I'll check at some point over night to make sure I'm not going hypo.

It seems that most parents of children with diabetes check overnight.

For me, I use it as a tool for understanding my condition better and ensuring my basal insulin is on the correct dose.

Does that help? :)

Thanks I understand better now I have got a type 1 adult son but don't know if he ever tests at night

If he's in control then he probably doesn't need to. It is a good habit to get into to check basal occasionally though

It's only necessary when things go wrong really , for example if you go to bed with your bg levels within range and wake up in double figures, or if you have a night or two where you wake up hypo, other than that many don't bother to test through the night.

Be careful where you stick that lancet :)

I am pretty sure that is how I broke one of my blood test machines overnight, possibly shoving in a test strip a little heavy handed and it buckling in the machine! ooopps I find it so hard to wake up in the middle of the night!
