Warning to all Freestyle Libre users

@MonsterLC May comment was based on people claiming it was a design error, and clearly, it was not an error, as it is what they intended to do. The designer did what was asked, therefore did his/her job correctly and calming overwise is devaluing the skills of the design team.

@ringi . Maybe they did what was asked, but that does not mean it is the correct way. I have been involved in lots of big projects were design problems have been identified, but then ignored. 1 such project then ended up with a fine of £500k a week due to the design being wrong and very narrowly avoiding a huge PR problem. Which could have been avoided had the advice been taken or designed correctly. It took 6 weeks to sort the problem out. That is 1 project of many i have been involved with these issues.

I needed to buy a new sensor in a country I was visiting. I put it on as usual and went to start the sensor with my Freestyle libre reader. The message on the reader was that the sensor was incompatible with the reader. I wondered why this would be as my reader wasn't broken and was relatively new. So now I had a new sensor on my arm which wouldn't work..... and not because the sensor was faulty either.

Now the problem is, it appears, is that both the readers and the sensors are country specific. So if you buy sensors in another country, which you may need to do as the sensors fail sometimes, or you are working in a different country, it will NOT work. I asked Abbott why it has set up like this. No reply.

The blood testing strips are not country specific so why have the sensors been made to work with a specific country reader?

There are no warnings about readers and sensors being country specific so I thought I would make everybody aware of the potential problem.

It would appear if you need to buy a sensor if a different country you have to buy the reader from that country as well, which will be in a different language and have none of your previous results on it.

I am now working in a different country and have 2 UK readers that will probably have to be thrown in the bin.

I got around the problem by using some free apps which work on my smartphone, which I must say is better as the screen is much better than the reader and you only 1 thing carry for your blood monitoring and phone access..
