Hey guys & gals! Hope you're good =)

I started a water-fasting experiment a few days ago, and I'm vlogging my experience with it if anyone's interested?

I'm tracking:
Blood Sugars
Basal Insulin
Ketones
Blood Pressure
Activity levels
Energy Levels
Anything else of note

Here's a link to the playlist so far (currently on day 3):

I also plan on using this channel for sharing tips/other info about diabetes for anyone interested =)

Perhaps you would like to share why you are water fasting?
I think I did in the overview video before the fast, but if not: I found some interesting research into fasting regenerating the immune system (I'm not expecting a cure, but thought it might increase my insulin sensitivity), and as well as this I found out about autophagy, which is a process whereby the body recycles/removes dead & damaged cells, so that sounded like a pretty nice benefit as well... & I thought it'd just be interesting because I'd never gone that long without eating before.

It didn't end too well, but I'm definitely going to give it another go in the future - unfortunately I probably won't be able to do it as often as I'd like, as I don't have too much extra weight on me, and I also (unfortunately) work in a supermarket.. and I'm not sure whether I'll have the willpower to stand surrounded by food for hours/days on end without caving lol.

Your videos were interesting, You are a good and careful commentator. Perhaps you could introduce folks to ketones?
Thanks! Shall do! I'm going to be going through pretty much everything I know/have learnt about diabetes management & health generally on that channel - I'm hoping that'll be of some use to people =)

If getting into ketosis is the goal, you may find Dr Keith Runyan's blog helpful.

Unless you have lots of body fats to provide the ketones and minimize lean mass loss, extended water fasting for Type 1 may not be such a good idea.

Still. Take care.
From what I've read, lean mass doesn't really reduce too much as long as the fast is done properly (which I guess it wasn't really, being as I unfortunately had to eat some small amounts of sugar due to too much insulin). Will definitely be giving it another go when I can though, as I found it very interesting. Definitely changed my relationship with food that's for sure... it really makes you realise how much our society revolves around eating nearly-constantly lol.

You are probably aware that the main difference between type 1 and type 2 when it comes to fasting is that type 2 still has a fairly robust background insulin level that will prevent us from going into ketoacidosis. As a type 1, it is a real risk as ketones rises very quickly after the 2nd day. You would need to take extra care to watch your ketones level and manage your basal insulin. Personally I think it should not be done without medical supervision as you may become hypo unaware while going about your daily activities.

Take care.

@Smiric
There was some others on here doing the same idea as your self @Mr Whippy as I recall

What I've found is that I can't work while very low calorie (pseudo-fasting) or I get faint. I can always exit this strategy if it becomes too much too yet I am a T2DM enjoyer! I hope this helps..
