Water problem!

The water has tasted strange today and the kettle died earlier.
So I put it down to the kettle.
My wife just went to the tap and drew a glass of water.
Crystal clear water with white flakes sinking to the bottom of the glass!!!
I put my finger in and get some on my finger and they are hard brittle asnd very very sharp thin as paper.
Obviously doesn't disolve as it's sitting on the bottom of the glass but these slivers are so sharp I dread to think what it's doing to my insides.
I'm going to have a dump later and take a look in that too.
Phoned Welsh Water emergency team coming out in the next couple of hours.
I've got to give the doc a pee sample tomorrow so that could be interesting.

Just had a call and they decided they will be here in twenty minutes don't drink anymore water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So if I'm not around tomorrow ...

This is a sample of what the water looks like in a jam jar.
I dread to think what these hard sharp insoluble things are doing inside my water works and guts right now!
The team must be about five minutes away I'll let you know what they say.

Is it hard water scale? Looks a bit like the stuff we get in our kettle due to hard water.

Hope all turns out ok.

I've lived in this area for twenty five years and never had this though.

A guy has just been.
Don't drink the water.
Its like hard chips or slivers of old paint or some chemical crystallising in the water.
He's going to check the mains. He's going to flush the mains.
He's going to get in touch with head office ... in the morning ... as he has no idea what the hell it is.
Never seen or heard of such a thing.
I'm not to drink the water and he'll be putting a report in to head office in the morning.
To late at night to warn other people in the area but a van will probably be around first thing.

I'm not to drink the water but the neighbours probably will .... :?
A van will probably be round in the morning ... probably ...
He's gone off to go get me some bottled water.
My pee sample will be interesting.

He reckons this mains will serve hundreds of people .... :problem:

I expect the local fire boys have been around flushing/checking the hydrants in your location. That always causing scouring of the area pipework and scale is usually dislodged ... typically calcuim and silica deposits, all nice and crunchy

Well well well ... turns out that the washing machine pipe is deteriorating inside and the contents are syphoning back into the mains.
I have to fit a double return valve to stop this happening.
I could just get a new washing machine pipe but those bits have shown that the washing machine is in fact syphoning back into the water so some times I'm drinking OMO and even though it washes whiter it can't be very good for me!
So tomorrow I'll be putting my plumbers hat on.

If the w/mc feed pipe is that bad then replace it before it bursts one day wile you are nowhere near.
