Any ideas how to shift water retention? Puffy ankles which swell throughout day but doctor not interested. Just says they're ok. Weight platoing. Keeping going but frustrated.

Assuming there is no underlying medical reason for this, my first action, in your shoes, would be to increase my fluid intake a bit.

Here in the tropics, both myself and my (non-diabetic, super healthy) OH find if we are beginning to become dehydrated our ankles swell. I know it's counter-intuitive, but after a day or so, of increased fluids, we find it eases.

For the short while I tried the proper LCHF approach, I found my urine to be pretty concentrated. I don't know whether ones body needs additional fluid to deal with the adjusted, erm, "outputs" from that style of diet, or whether it just didn't really suit, me overall.

well ive noticed my left ancle seems to swell, i thought my socks were to tight but why is it only the left ancle. ive got type 1 diabetes on novorapid/lantus and artritis of my let knee.

You're not on Amlodopine by any chance? I had the 'Cankles' badly whilst on that calcium channel blocker medication for hypertension-on stopping it my cankles went away within a week.

I would continue with the dieting to get the weight down which should help a bit. Exercise should help. It is unlikely to be associated with your diabetes, but there are always exceptions

No - metformin. Will try and increase fluid intake. How much to people generally drink a day?

You could see how much salt is in your diet. Several cheeses have a high salt content,

Lots of processed meats, ham, sausages etc.... vary in their salt content. They usually label it as sodium.

Salt is not a problem for most people unless they have a high BP but it could be the cause of your swollen ankles.

This article might help, you can get OTC diuretics but do tell the chemist which medications you are taking.

Massage also helps. This article explains how to massage your ankles.

I drink at least 3 litres of water a day and do not drink diet sodas preferring to add lemon and lime slices to water.

If you do not get an improvement then you must go back to your Dr. and explain that the swollen ankles are causing you distress.

Hope this helps,

CC.

You are a star! Do you low carb? I think I'm supposed to eat some salt on this diet. I do eat bacon lots of days for breakfast but will try and swap it out for something else. Don't eat any other processed meat apart from sausages once a week with Puy lentils. Otherwise mostly fish and some chicken with green veggies. Will also speak to chemist. :)
