Hi! I'm 17 years old and have had type one since I was 2. In the past few years my a1c has been constantly high and my weight is consistently gaining. I have been over eating and I think that might be due to blood sugar spikes? Any tips for weight loss (pills, tips, etc)? Being a 17 year old girl, wearing an insulin pump and gaining weight does not lead to the best confidence level!

Well, at 17 you still want your weight to go up but I assume it's gone up more than you like? It can be hard for a T1 to control weight because you have to eat when you go hypo....

All I can say is that if you can focus on getting 'even keel' blood sugars then your body will sort itself out to be your natural fighting weight ie. the weight that is right for you as an individual which may be different to your best friend or whichever celeb bod you aspire to.
Insulin in the wrong doses will make you hungrier especially when your bg crashes so use the pump to get the basal dose right and try to eat good food meaning meat, egss, dairy, nuts, some veg in sufficient quantity to fill you up nicely. This may need a little more testing and attention to detail but will make diabetic life easier in the longer term.
Please don't go the route of pills as these are not any kind of long term solution and could be dangerous as well as pointless/expensive.
I know this because in a desperate bid to lose weight I took some amphetamine type of pill and it just made me wired! The other type of pills are laxative/detox type of stuff which are expensive and just make you lose water and feel lousy.
At 17 I feel like you should be getting on with other stuff and not worrying about weight. Be aware that type 1 by its nature encourages eating disorders so if you feel you are bingeing/purging or starving please seek help! I don't know if this is at all an issue but just wanted to give you that warning! Take care.
