I started making my own kefir last year, in an effort to improve my gut health. After some early mishaps, I got a good process going and have been drinking about 100ml every morning for the last 25 weeks. However, over the same period both my weight and my A1c have gradually crept up despite sticking to the 5:2 diet, which has always worked for me in the past. I was at a loss why until I spotted this link https://www.empowher.com/healthy-eating/content/my-short-love-affair-kefir
I tried making skimmed milk kefir, but my grains refuse to work in low fat milk.
Has anyone else found this problem? I think I'm going to have to give it up, at least for a trial period.
