I am a type 2, 64 years old and very active. I am finding that keeping to a low carb diet is making me loose a lot of weight. I am 5ft 7 and have just dropped down to just under 10 stone from 10 stone 8 lbs. I am finding this a worry as a lot of my clothes are now too big for me. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi,

I've lost 2 stone since being diagnosed with type 2. I'm male, 5ft 10 tall and now 10st 5. I can maintain weight for a few weeks but also lose it just as fast. I've tried counting calories, eating fatty foods and latterly eating more carbs. I'll find out what this has done to my BS level as I've another review coming up very soon. Sorry I cant be of more help but I haven't cracked the weight thing yet.

Thanks for your reply. Yesterday I thought I would try a day with carbs and had chips for tea. I put on 1lb but my sugar level went up to 10.4 Can't seem to get it right at all.

I think that if you have a calorie deficity then you will lose weight. If you want to maintain weight but still eat low carb you have to replace the calories that you would normally get from carbs with calories from fats and proteins.

Laser mum right.. Good advice. You need to ensure you get enough calories one way or another to maintain weight..

I find that 50g of nuts makes a nice snack - or peanut butter (on something relatively low carb like ryvita).

For instance, 15g of Asda Smooth Peanut Butter (according to MyFitnessPal) has 2g carbs, 8g fat, 4g protein, 95 calories.

There again I love nuts! Hmm, it's fortunate that my hubby doesn't read this forum - he might take offense!

Or maybe that should be "I am nuts!" - also true!
