Weight loss in diabetes

Given the information about the thyroid problem, I agree with the advice about trying to get your father to visit a medical practitioner, and recognise that is very difficult.
The diet your father is eating sounds very low in calories (to me). It sounds as if he has removed a lot of the starch from his diet but it has not been replaced with fat. Vegetables and fish are generally fairly low in calories. Will he eat nuts at all? Tree nuts (i.e not cashews and peanuts) are generally low in carbohydrate and fairly high in calories.

Tell your Dad we've all had and experienced Doctors that are both unsympathetic and rude. Reassure him thyroids a good thing but it may be as simple controlling his bloods but we you need to record a pattern before meals, 2hrs after and 4 hours after. If necessary ask to speak to another specialist I did when I was 14 years and it changed my life. Back in 1975 had I known it I'd learned the basics of Dafne its a life changer for many. Hope I can help. All the best to your dad, it's a pain but we have to resolve issues for him and you. Regards M
You have given me a lot of advice and I'm sure it will help me and my dad a lot. I'm grateful to you for everything, hope my dad will be as healthy as you said, thanks a lot!

Hmm, it's very very difficult when he refuses to see a doctor. Just as a work around,, do you think it would help if you bought another meter and told your dad that a friend had lent it to you? Your profile says you are T2 (though I don't know if that refers to your dad). Maybe you could lend him your own meter? Just a few tests would give so much information to take to a medical professional.

You are obviously a very caring daughter who is doing everything she can for her dad, but ultimately you are not responsible for his refusal to get help. Do you have other family members or family friends who could help try to change his mind?

Lots of virtual hugs. Good luck.
Thank you for your warm hugs.
A good idea about buying another meter and telling dad that a friend lent it to me. I should have thought of that right away, thanks a lot, it really helps!

My family often cooks for my father brown rice, afraid of not having enough nutrition, we also feed him with lotus seeds, red beans, almonds and black beans. But I'm not sure if those nuts are helpful.

Rice is not really a good choice - diabetics can't cope with it - something higher in protein and fats would be a better option.

Does your father eat eggs, or cheese?
No, he doesn't eat cheese, but sometime eat eggs
