Weight Loss Initially Then Weight Gain

Morning Everyone. :D I first suspected diabetes when I lost oodles of weight in December and was diagnosed Type 2. Can someone tell me please why the weight goes back on? Is it the meds or a slow down in metabolism? Thanks all.

Hi 1066girl.

There could be a multitude of reasons for weight to increase. Medications, diet, exercise, or lack of it more correctly. Even some underlying medical conditions ?

More information is required before a more positive answer can be given.

Me too. Diagnosed about six to eight weeks ago. Lost two stone over previous five months but over past month have put half a stone back on. I am obese, have an underactive thyroid, high cholestral as well as diabetes. Really struggling to keep the weight down and frustrated that I should eat low fat, low sugar foods, I don;t drink much don't smoke don't work (at the moment) and don't go out. Life's so boring. Any advise on the diet anyone please!

Hi JMS41.

Lipitor/Atorvastatin has weight gain as a possible side effect. Why they put people who are trying to lose weight on this is beyond me. There are alternatives.

Hi JMS41 again.

I eat low fat, low sugar, along with other dietary requirements and my food is never boring. Neither is my life boring, not since taking control of my Diabetes. Life is now a pleasure.

There is such a variety of wonderful tasty food out there. Have a look around the food forum, the low and non-low carb areas. You should get some good ideas. Cut right back on carbohydrates, it doesn't have to be low carbs. A reduction in carbohydrates benefits not only your Bg levels but should also help shift the weight as well. I have lost over 3.5 stone since January by drastically reducing carbs.

With your medication not helping, you need to be pro-active. The meds can only do so much.
