So I was diagnosed with diabetes 5 weeks ago, they suspect type 2 but want run further tests to make sure that I am type 2 however they also suspect because of age it may be type 1, I am 20.
After I found out I was diabetic I cut almost all carbs from my diet the first two weeks were just boiled broccoli and chicken. With an hour of work out everyday keeping in my mind I have an active job where I am standing and walking for 7.5 hours. Plus walk to work and back. During all of this I've lost 8kg or 13 pounds or 1.2 stones. Now I am thinking is it going too fast cause I am on metformin as well and DN told me that induces weight loss as well.

Hi and welcome. If you were already slim at diagnosis then T1 is quite possible and if you are a T1 then weight loss without trying often happens where the body burns fat as it doesn't have enough insulin to make use of the carbs you eat. Carry on keeping the carbs down but have enough proteins and fats. If you are diagnosed T1 then tablets may be added to the Metformin such as Gliclazide to stimulate the pancreas. Insulin will probably be needed at some point. Do get hold of a glucose meter so you can check how you are doing with regard to blood sugar. Metformin can induce a little weight loss if you are T2 thru appetite reduction plus a small amount of glucose control.

Thanks for making that clear :D I do have a glucose metre and my blood sugars are always 5 and 6 when I wake up and between 6 to 7 after meals ... I've never had lower than those and I've always been on the heavy side ... so my question now is how does metformin help with type 1 without any insulin help.

Metformin never has that much effect for either T1 or T2; perhaps 1 to 2 mmol in your reading. It does reduce the liver's background output of glycogen (glucose) a bit. When I halved my Metformin recently I had to tweak my insulin up slightly. So, Metformin is not that important in relative terms particularly for T1s but it's a safe drug. Gliclazide is far more important in increasing insulin production and Sitagliptin reduces blood sugar spikes by suppressing an enzyme after eating. There are a few other tablets and variants but these two are very common prior to needing insulin. I was on max dose of all three before insulin together with a low'ish carb diet.
