Last May we noticed that my father had lost some weight. He has a lot of other problems like severe rhemotoid artritis and and a lung condition that makes him cough alot and he has Asthma. I monitored his weight for about 6 months and it stablised. We went to get a cataract operation and they did not do it because after fasting his blood sugar was 24.

Since the diagnosis, he has been on 500 mg Metformin and has cut out all his sweets, chocolate and his appetite has halfed. He is feeling much better and not going to the toilet in the night anymore. The thing that has shocked me most is the weightloss. It is explainable as he has cut out a load of rubbish and eating a loss less. He is also more active. He had his 3 month test and the sugars were much lower and all other results from the blood test was normal. Will his weight stabilise?
I am sorry if this is a silly question.

Thanks. that gives a BMI of 27.1 just into the overweight zone. So, a little weight loss is no bad thing, depends what he feels comfortable with. Is he bothered by it ? Is it just you that is worried ?
If you are still concerned then he/you should discuss this with your GP. IMHO I don't really see a problem if he feels well and is going along Ok with all his other problems.

I lost weight and everybody thought I was ill !! I had a devil of a job convincing some people that there was nothing wrong with me and I was happy with my weight loss. Could that be the case here ?

Ken.
