weight

no as metformin only helps with insulin resistance,
metformin can have serious side effects and isnt a weight loss pill,
there are many other ways to lose weight safely :D

Hi Henry,
Taking metaformin is not the way to go! There are weight loss pills that if your health is okay the doctor could give you!
To be honest i have lost 40 plus pounds since may just by doing regular exercise and cutting alot of carbs out of my diet! You don't have to speed walk or run! Walk the stairs a few times! Or go swimming as the water will take the weight! It is better to try other ways rather than taking metaformin!
As with all pills there is always going to be side effects as everyone acts in a different way!

would it be advisable for a non diabetic to take metformin to lose weight
Hi Henry11,

In my opinion, pills don't sort out such problems. The way to lose weight is by eating less food. Count the calories if neceassary.

Best wishes - John

I found this in one publication
>>It is not entirely clear if metformin causes weight loss for most people with type 2 diabetes.
At the very least, however, it seems that people taking metformin do not gain weight (a common problem with many other diabetes medications). It is not known if metformin has any effect on weight in people who do not have diabetes.<<
Although I wouldn't like to upset anyone,
I also don't agree with the "Calories in = Calories out" theory of weight loss. There's more evidence that it doesn't work like that, than ever there was that it does.
I's a calculation which perfectly fits the working of an internal combustion engine, but not a human metabolism.
read "The Diet Deception", by Gary Taubes.
The most effective weight loss diets, restrict carbohydrates. Despite what you might read elsewhere, this is perfectly safe.
