Weird calls since I posted an ad on gumtree

Hey guys,
I made a post on gumtree recently looking to find a training buddy since finding out about my diabetes. The doctor said it was due to my weight and diet, so thought it would be a good idea to find someone in my area (oxford) that wants to work out with me. I made a post saying what I was looking for and ever since then I have been getting weird calls from lots of different numbers. I had one today that was quite alarming, they said I was going to be arrested for unpaid tax. I think maybe gumtree is not the best place to post anymore. Has anyone got a better suggestion for finding exercise buddies? I do not like going to the gym as feel insecure so wanted to just go for runs and things but feel like I would be more likely to go with someone else.

Have a look for local running clubs etc. There are several groups which do couch to 5k groups or beginners running.
Also Parkruns are a good way of doing something with other people.

Good suggestion thanks, I just worry they will all be much fitter than me and it will discourage me if its a dedicated running club .
 
That's why you want a beginners one! Lots of people doing the same. And Parkruns, you can walk them to start with.

The arrest threat re unpaid tax is just a scam call. There is a lot of these scam calls going around and it will have nothing to do with your post on Gumtree. HMRC will NEVER call to threaten you with arrest. Hope you find a training partner.

Hi Lindie,

Yeh you must be right, I did a little look online and found hundreds of comments saying about the scam so probably not linked to my ad as you say. I have had one promising response so I am going to meet them on saturday :)

Not a scam, but we started receiving calls about a cat, which I couldn't seem to make head nor tail of. It turned out that someone was selling a rag doll cat but the newspaper where the ad appeared printed the wrong number, giving instead my wife's mobile number. We are still receiving calls about the cat two weeks later.
