Weird Pattern to BS/Weight Loss

or not.......????

I've noticed these past few months that a few days of slightly higher fasting numbers (including pre-meal readings) seems to precede weight loss for me. I generally have pretty stable/reliable mid 4's but if I run in the low 5's for a few days I'm pretty much guaranteed to see a 1/2kg or so weight loss.

Anyone else noticed such a pattern? I'm fairly sure I'm not imagining it

Hi,
Has this anything to do with what you are eating.
Low Carb does reduce blood sugar and weight ?
;)

Thanks for your reply @Randburg :)

I am low carbing & enjoying the lower BS numbers it brings but was curious to see if anybody else's numbers went up a bit in the days before a sudden or significant weight loss.

I think I may be looking for patterns or answers where there really are none!

Thanks again,

The main thing you are posting is the patterns you are noticing.
I lose weight quicker after a fasting day!, but put a little back on the day after.
Bloods in ketosis are always hovering around 5mmols.
Sometimes, they can be higher first thing in morning nearing 6mmols. But I think it's my liver.

I hadn't really thought about ketosis @nosher8355 - might have to do some reading & maybe get some of those sticks. Does being in ketosis actually increase weight loss? I'd rather not lose any weight so maybe I need to up my carbs or protein just enough to keep me out of ketosis while still keeping my BS as low as I can.

Thanks :)

Low carbing and being in ketosis don't have to mean that you'll lose weight, it's just that they can also be used that way. You need to adjust your diet according to whether you want to maintain or lose weight. There are several low carb/keto nutritiuional calculators around which can help you do these adjustments. Try this one, or do a Google search for others.

I am convinced that there is a pattern to it but, like you, I have never fully understood it. I had a theory that I was too concerned about my last meal and I should take into account earlier meals that were still in my gut. This meant that carbs were available but a day later so to speak. I proved nothing.

However I am content with the overall result. 96Kg down to 83Kg with a slight bounce.

Hi @Safi
Totally agree with @Robbity. You have to tailor your intake to either increase, decrease or retain your weight. Probably with mainly protein.
I have seen differences in weight loss, because of different days meals.
Because I eat small meals throughout the day, I tend to go to favourites instead of more vegetable or non meat protein. I love meat, and I have a lot of yoghurt (full fat), more than I should!
But I am still losing weight slowly, as I was advised! Slowly but surely is the way to go.
You will find however, that your weight will, go down, then plateau, then raise a little, then go down again. It's different for everyone, but if the trend is steadily downward over a couple of months, that is what you want to see.

Oh yeah, plate size is very important and no extra snacks! Except for the odd piece of 85% + dark chocolate!:D:rolleyes:

And that, of course, is entirely for health reasons! :D

Didn't you see the article in the papers today!:p

Seriously, I seem to sleep better, when I have the couple of pieces with my full fat yoghurt!:hungry::)

Love, love, love the Lindt 85% - even better if you spread it with a teaspoon of peanut butter :D
