I wouldn't say I was overly worried about the lock-down regarding corona virus, but I would say I am feeling a little anxious about being stuck at home 24/7, so if I could still work, then I would put myself forward to escort a child to their school.

Sorry I was unclear, I meant where an individual (not the population) is in the timeline. So someone recently infected is more likely to be a false negative.

Ah yes that's true ..about 7 days after exposure before the PCR test may pick it up.. so it does make testing the asymptomatic even more pointless.

This is a reminder that this thread is called ‘what are people thinking about a second lockdown?’

It is not called ‘lets all derail yet another thread with arguments about covid test accuracy’.

Please stay on topic, or mods will start deleting the off topic posts.

Anyone wishing to discuss test accuracy is welcome and can start a new thread in order to do so. However, since covid test accuracy is not related to diabetes, that thread should be placed in the General Chat Section of the forum.

I am worried about how bad it’ll be if we get as far as a second national lockdown as I don’t think that’ll happen easily or without a huge need for it, and if it does happen it’ll be way too late probably again.

Really can’t answer the poll as I’m not sure if I am more worried we’ll lockdown (things looking bad) or more worried we won’t (things looking bad but heads in the sand)

Bit of a generalisation there - how do you know that people do not self isolate when positive? Not all youngsters are ‘selfish rats’. My nephew is 28 and gets stressed, almost to the point paranoia, about going out just in case he infects other people even though he hasn’t got, or ever had, Covid. He works from home, doesn’t go out and, because of this, is extremely stressed. I’m sure he in not the only young person in this situation.

Of course I am only talking about the ones that are out partying. We see them on TV every night. Of course I am not condemning ALL youngsters, just the ones who are out spreading it for selfish reasons (not for work etc). It seemed so obvious that it would have been an unnecessary waste of space to state that I was not referring to people who behave sensibly, young or old. My own children are ultra careful too. And it was all over the news yesterday that people with covid were by no means all isolating. That was the reason they gave for introducing the new £500 payment (very sensibly).

I’m not really that worried about catching it, I’m doing what I can to minimise getting it without it being detrimental to living a life of some sort. Im more concerned for my mental health and that of my son, also not seeing my brother and his family

Totally agree with you @lucylocket61 I’ve seen plenty of the middle and older generations being just as irresponsible as the youngsters, I don’t believe it’s a generational thing - maybe in the pubs it’s weighted towards the younger ones but by all means not exclusive and I’ve actually seen a big decline across all ages of social distancing and taking extra care and consideration

Thank you for sticking up for the selfish rats. I have 3 of them and am much more libertarian than they are in my attitude to all of this. In fact they were a bit anxious about me because I am type 1 until I pointed out that my chances are great and they should get on with their lives. Less moral outrage and more pragmatism based on science would be helpful here.

You don't mind if they spread covid to you by "getting on with their lives", because you are still young yourself and, as you say, think your chances are great.But have you considered that others might not feel the same? Their teachers perhaps, or the parents & grandparents of school friends they might spread it to. Children have to go to school, but let's hope "getting on with their lives" doesn't involve any more mixing than is absolutely essential, as not everyone will be able to withstand the virus as well as you and your kids can.

I despair. I really don't see the point of another lockdown if we lift it too soon again. The UK couldn't have handled this situation worse if it tried. The pandemic has opened my eyes to how selfish people in this country are.

I've just watched today's press conference.... and it's now got me worried. I left my job to take a career break last summer, intending to get back into work earlyish this year. Had started going for a few interviews in February and had a second lined up for March, which got shelved because of covid, as did most recruitment in my field. So, here we are 7 months later and almost no savings left and I'm now finally getting interviews (fingers crossed an offer very soon!), but if cases continue rising drastically again and more restrictions are imposed nationally, I'm terrified recruitment will go on hold again before I start a job. And that almost certainly means losing my house and my sanity. *big fat sigh*

This is not 'I'm alright Jack' ! I cannot be sure if I would be okay but I am nearly 50 with imperfect diabetic control yet having looked at the actual data (the Karr NHS report on diabetics from May), my chances are pretty good along with at least 99% of the population.

I see this discussion as one about proportionality with regards to the mitigations that are possible versus the actual risk as well as the efficacy of any such mitigations versus the cost of such measures in lives lost (from treatments and diagnosis not carried out by the NHS to deaths of despair).

Although originally I wasn't worried I did find that the way data is presented on TV, it's becomes very worrying. If I just look at Bucks it's not so bad, we don't seem to have cities large enough to be problematic areas except maybe Milton Keynes.
I've now been back to the MS Centre for three weeks and have seen how people have deteriorated over six months without the regular oxygen therapy. Fair to say that I now am worried about another lockdown.
Although a bit like a short sharp shock, it might be what's required to prevent anything worse over the winter. Who knows? At least we only had to listen to scientists last night.

I haven’t really come out of lockdown yet except for a visit to our favourite bistro a few times as we know they are extra conscious and have been excellent throughout lockdown. I’ve had a few walks but not gone anywhere else. We are however in a coastal resort and Some residents worry about the visitors. I do find though that the longer I stay indoors the more I’m not interested in going out. I miss my friends two in particular one just diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer who I may never see again and the other with multiple conditions whose mental state is very variable. My beloved has been working from home nd had been told he would be last back into the office because of my vulnerability then yesterday was told to go back to the office from next Tuesday. He’s retiring on the 31st of December, is was to be the end of this month. But was asked to stay on longer to continue to train others.
Should a second lockdown come I shall adhere to it but watching groups of 8,9 and 10 walk down to the beach yesterday I worry if they are going to bother to stick to any of the advice.

Hi there, I suspect the answer to your last question is no. I work amongst the general public and there are swathes of people who will do what they want, there are naysayers who think it's all a hoax, there are those who simply do not give a stuff about others so you are right in that only YOU can take precautions for yourself as best you can. x

I got a distinct feeling that the "odd couple" statements were aimed mainly at the young, warning them of the dangers of passing the virus on to others more vulnerable.

Boris is expected to give his statement at about 12-30, but not confirmed by Boris. I supose it depends on what happens in this morning's Cobra meeting.

What I really hope is that they scrap all the current localised restrictions and bring in a national one. This should then hopefully remove all the confusion.
