Going to get a couple of sirloin steaks for tomorrow night. I usually do flat mushroom filled with stilton and some roasted tomato with rocket and mustard mayo with steak. I'd like to do something a bit different and wondered what your favourite combo is?

Stuffed peppers with diced mushrooms, peppers, spring onions, garlic and a strong cheese is nice.
Also a roasted seasoned long sweet pepper is another favourite of ours.

cooked mushrooms in garlic butter, tinned toms, peas, maybe some roasted celeriac and/or butternut squash.

Homemade coleslaw, fried onions, big green salad and mushrooms stuffed with halloumi and a big splash of hot pepper sauce all over.

With a sirloin (someone else paying) I'd go for the same as I have with a 100% beef burger ... bacon, cheese, mushrooms, tomato, fried egg on top.
If it was fillet I'd show more respect.

I'm a fillet steak only kind of girl. Our treat every Saturday evening.

Blue cheese or peppercorn sauce with a steak :)

Not a big lover of steak, but I would definitely go for the accompaniments mentioned, some really tasty ones :)

Went to Liguria in September and one night had steak with pizzaiola sauce - YUM!

Basically it's garlic/chilli/anchovy sweated in extra virgin olive oil until the garlic softens and the anchovy dissolves. You then add olives/capers/oregano/parsley/tinned toms and season then cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Pour over a medium rare sirloin steak. I serve with a little boiled new potato and lots of green beans on the side.

Got the recipe from Two Greedy Italians Eat Italy - Carluccio/Contaldo.

It would either be chips, onion rings, mushrooms and peppercorn sauce or mash, peas, mushrooms and a lovely sherry sauce my mother makes yum!!

Well any of those would have been my choice before I was diabetic. Now I'll settle for a yummy salad instead......and nice low BG's for afters:)

Side plate of buttery veggies .
For the steaks you could try making a tasty sauce easily done .
Single cream dash of dion mustard , decent glug of white added in .
Warm steak diane sauce poured over the steaks .

Drink rest of the white wine with meal ;):) sorted !

Thanks for all the ideas! Getting steak from butchers today, might even push boat out for fillet :wideyed:. Have decided on flat mushrooms filled with stilton, baked with tomatoes roasted in garlic oil, a rocket salad and will try a dijon sauce instead of our usual dijon mayo, thanks @anna29 . Will be trying other ideas in the future, thanks! :)

Happy valentines meal all

Not forgetting a good Spanish Rioja or any red for that matter, that would be a good accompaniment, add a glug to the mushroom sauce, low carb too at approx 3g a glass hic
