What are your "go to" meals when eating out?

I order salad with dressing in the side and chips which I give away.
which is pretty much the only way to guarantee no sauce thickeners, seasoned flour on the meat etc. I have an allotment so I am a bit iffy with bought in salads, chlorine risk, leaves hanging around for more than a day sort of stuff. Have to admit I risk a naked burger if they look meaty and I can see them go straight into the pan. Had a couple of lovely ones and so far only one which I thought had other ingredients. Weatherspoons have an online list of the carbs in their menu so they are a handy place to go if you are out and about.

Maybe give some suggestions for your favourite types of cuisine..
My go to meals are:
Chinese - Crispy Duck (no pancakes or sauce) and roast pork
Indian - Chicken Tikka with some form of veg bahji spinach or mushroom
Japanese - Sashimi or yakitori
Pubs.. bunless/chipless burger or steak with green veg/salad if available
Fast food as above - bunless/chipless burger
Chip shop - fish picking off the batter or grilled if they offer it.. salad
Does that help?

Agree with most of this but a word of warning re Japanese I used to love chicken yakitori but had to stop due to it spiking my sugars - yakitori suace has quite a bit of sugar in it. My sister in law was Japanese and she told me that many japanese sauces etc are packed full of sugar.I also love Japanese pickled ginger with sashimi, but the pickling mix is also packed full of sugar and my system cant tolate much of the ginger without a big spike. There are many meals you can order in a japanese restuarant ( more than in say yo sushi or Wasabi) that are ok but ask first re sugar

Since this thread was first started, I have since found that tapas are excellent for low carbing. In our local tapas restaurant you get to decide which little dishes you want out of a huge list and it was very easy to choose low carb as they had most of the ingredients listed on the menu. (Actually it was quite difficult to make a decision because there were so many suitable dishes.)

I went to a Pad Thai Noodle/Rice place yesterday and had the veggie stir fry with cashews and Oyster Sauce (without the rice). It appeared to have a minimal affect on my BGs - 2 hrs after eating I was 8.1 (went up 2 points pre-meal) so I'll have to try that again.

Some of the chain restaurants have full nutrition guide online, wethetspoons, pizza express, cafe Nero etc. I use these as a guide when eating similar good elsewhere. I avoid rice, noodles and only have a few chips or swap them for salad. Indian food can be really good of you stick to things like chicken tikka or shashlik. Bottom line is enjoy it!
