Im on diamcron mr and junivia so when reading about following keto/low-carb way of eating on a few facebook pages I'm finding information on how people count net carbs and work out what dose of insulin is used to control their BSL as they need insulin to control their BSL... So got to thinking how does this work for non insulin T2 diabetics but are on tablets how do others work out what to eat if on tablets T2D following KETO/LC WOE. sorry if this is confusing question.

Cheers

Use your meter & find out what spikes you & what doesn't.
Count carbs & stay within your limits.

Some need to stay full Keto, some can handle much larger amounts of carbs.
Test, test, test.

If you eat a low carb or ketogenic diet you're likely to get off the medication altogether. .
Many of us can manage remission without medication eating this way.

Januvia will help with your insulin response to whatever carbs you have, but will hopefully become redundant if you use a very low carb diet or be in or just above Keto. Having a Keto diet means that you don't rely on the carbs that spike you for energy, you will lose weight if you want to. And if you stick with it, you could become in remission. Also, you could at one stage start having carbs again.
Eat to your meter and test, test, test.

Simple. I don’t eat the things my meter tells me cause a big rise Ie the carby foods. No tablets or insulin needed as a result.

For those on tablets or insulin that start eating low carb they will quite rapidly find they need less medication as the blood levels don’t go so high so there’s less need for the medication. In fact they should be very very aware of testing regularly and being ready to deal with hypos until medication is adjusted downwards, as it can be that effective!

Hi. The Diamicron (Gliclazide in the UK) can cause hypos. If you want to keep the carbs down and are having hypos then the Diamicron needs to be reduced. If you are currently overweight then keeping the carbs down should help with weight loss and a reduced need for the Diamicron. Always bear in mind that some T2s are actually mis-diagnosed T1 so if you are slim do get the tests for T1 done

thanks will try and eat to my meter and will test more often as I have been not doing that at the moment plus when I spoke to my endocologist a few years ago saying I wanted to try low carb he said was ok to cut down the diamcron but he didn't want me to stop the Januvia ? so I need to do some research on these medication and discuss with the endo again hopefully at my next appointment next year. I have tried low carb and cut down my diamcron to 30mr but then had to up the dose to 120 as I was on hydrocortisone infusions and then steroids for a few months in 2019/2020 and although no longer on steroids I have gone back to 60 D and constantly having problems trying to get back to eating this way again bread is my numinous i think that is the right word haha .... wish me luck

As an example of this, I decided to go keto for this week (around 30 carbs a day). From day 2 my glucose plummeted (usually between 5 and 7 fasting). Fasting has dropped to the very low 4s. I obviously adjusted my bolus insulin to match the no carb meals (actually haven't had to use more than the odd unit) but forgot about my basal which had been 10 a day. I've adjusted that now to 8 units a day of basal but even then, in the first 5 or 6 days I was going low and my graph looked as if I'd gone into cardiac arrest! Now, on day 7 it is all levelling out, always in the 4s or 5s and very steady. I do find it fascinating and I do test, test, test because I know it can easily fall very low if I exercise etc. My ketones are 0.7 which I think shows I'm getting into ketosis?? I haven't done this for any particular reason, I was getting a bit fed up carb counting all the time!!! x

I think you are looking for the word nemesis.
Spuds are mine!

If your blood glucose levels are up and down and your fasting and Hba1c levels are not coming down quickly enough, then I can understand the continuing need for Januvia.

Keep safe

Thanks yes nemesis is the world lol....

I usually have good readings although I'm on meds and My last HBA1C (IFCC) was 42 mmol/mol and my HBA1c is 6.0 which has dropped a bit from my last reading 6 months ago which was 44 and 6.1. And I've been eating sourdough bread and was on steroids but he did say this to me 3 years ago.

My diet has been trying to cut our sweets right now covid-19 and stuff made me overindulging so I still ate some carby foods buy im wanted to go back to low carb im slowly doing that....
