What do u wash your hands with when out??

Hello, just wondering what everyone has found the best for making sure their hands are clean when they go out if no soap and water are available, i did try wet wipes but was told they can influence your result so am at abit of a loss at what to use, i did think of the gels but was unsure if they also affect the result, find it hard sometimes to get my sons hands clean when there are no toilet faciliities available what do u think?? thanks

I am a keen fisherman and when fishing I use a travel hand wash gel that I buy from outward bound type shops, I believe that chemists also sell similar products though.

I have never noticed a reaction with test strips using these products, hope this helps. :D
 
When it comes down to using gels the worst one for infulancing readings are the Alcohol based gels..

Me when I'm out and about..

As I have a dog, I always carry a supply of fresh water for him in my car... So if needs be I can use this

But if really stuck, if my hands aren't visually dirty I take a BG if necessary, if they are visually dirty then a little spit on the intended finger and a wripe in clothing normally does the trick..

As jopar states, it is not advisable to use alcohol based gels as they do impede on bg results, I was told this by my diabetes nurse just recently.

I try and wash whenever possible, but if I can't I use bottled water and a tissue to dry, failing that if my hands are relatively clean and I haven't been handling any sweet stuff, I just test away. As you are asking advice with regards to your child, I would try and carry a small bottle of water to prevent infection, but just the same remember to change the lancet each time you use the finger pricking device.

I got a little spray bottle from one of the chemists and filled it with a weak soap solution - I just spray a bit on a tissue and wipe the area - use the rest of the tissue to dry.

My dad has a really tiny bottle like a breath freshener spray which is great as it fits into his kit - never been able to find one myself so I have requested it in his will :lol:

You can also dampen a tissue and wrap it in cling film so it fits in your kit but it will dry out in a couple of days so its no good as a standby but ok if you plan on using it same day
 
wow great suggestions thanx some of these i wouldnt of thought of i do find we get very diff results if i just wash his hands to when i dont it can make a huge difference so i do like to make sure his hands are clean everytime
