My Name Is Emma, I’m 10. I Was Diagnosed On The 9th Of May 2012.My Highest Has Been 32.8 And My Lowest Was 1.6! I Am Often High In The Mornings, So On School Days I Talk To My Teacher And Get 2 Friends To Go For A Run With Me. It Is School Holidays Now And I Am Partly Self-Injecting. I Just Got Back From A Diabetic Camp Last Week And That’s When I Started Self-Injecting. I Have A Cat That Is 1 Year Old And Recently As She Gets More Mature She Is Recognizing My Highs And Lows. What I Like About Diabetes Is The Fact That I Am Different, And I Can Be Different. It Gives Me More Confidence People Want To Know About It, They Want To Be My Friend. I Feel Smart When I Explain Medical Stuff And People Say ”Whoa!” And ”That Must Be Hard!” On The Other Hand Though It Often Is Very Painful When I Have Injections And I Hate Having Highs And Lows, But Diabetes Makes Me, Me. My Name Is Emma (Like I Said Before) And The Meaning Of The Name Emma Is “Whole Or Complete” And I Always Thought It Was A Bit Weird But I Under Stand, That Diabetes Makes Me Complete And I Am Accepting That It Is Who I Am. What Do You Like And Dislike About Diabetes?

Wow Emma!!! I am in awe of you!! I am Type 2 and don't have to inject yet, which would scare the pants off me!!! You sound a very brave and sensible young lady and I hope your parents are very proud if you!!! :0)

Hi Emma,
My name is Neil, I'm 34. I was diagnosed on the 28th Dec 2012. My highest reading has been 28.5 and my lowest was 2.1. So you've beaten me on both
My nurse says that it's a matter of time before I have to inject, and I have to say that, if I deal with half as well as you do, I'll be very proud of myself. And you should be very proud of yourself.

Your post has really lightened my day....Thank you.

The thing I like about Diabetes is being made to feel a bit silly by someone who is a lot braver than me

Take care Emma.

Hi Emma. You are a fine example to any other young person who is diagnosed with T1 and has to go onto insulin. I think your point about diabetes being part of you is the right attitude for accepting what it is and the good and bad that goes with it. I guess for me what I like is the fact that it forces me to think about the ingredients in the food I eat, study the packaging and then eat more healthily than I would without diabetes. I am a lot more knowledgeable about food now than I was before diagnosis. I guess the dislikes are the same for most of us with diabetes such having to restrict food to some extent and the injecting if on insulin.

Emma, you rock! The best bit? Meeting strong, brave, positive people like you! :-)

Thank you all for your reply's and the nice things you said. What i forgot to mention in the dislikes is when i go to my friends house and mabye a couple of us are there and they offer me chips and chocolate and yummy snacks. My friends and family know that i cant always have lots of sugar, but they tend to forget. However i am getting the pump in a few weeks, witch can fix these problems in someways. I'd like to thank you again for all the lovely things you have been saying, and i'll see you around! Take care, God Bless You :D

Hi Emma

Really nice to hear how positive you are about your diabetes and how you manage to take control of it much better then a 21 year old like me :) Highest was 38.1 and lowest 2.7. I like the fact me and my friends laugh our heads off when we find an internet meme about diabetes and they joke about it so it has become minor thing with them and helps me feel less burdened by it. My dis-like is hypo's and the fear that comes with it.

Keep it up Emma :)
