What do you miss from the 'Olden Days'?

Saving the Robinsons golliwog tops .
Got my treasured golliwog from my mum/dad this way .

Called it Jacko after the Jackson five pop group .

I keep reminiscing about the 1970's as a teenager, but today when at my dad's, this came flooding back and I loved him so much back in the 1960's and I had the badge, :joyful:

Omg, I remember going to a Tufty club when I was a young kid

I totally agree, there is so much rubbish on tv, and repeat s. I get so cross when it's time to pay the tv licence,

We dumped that disgraceful licence back in the 60s

What do you guys pay?

I was with the GPO when I left school at 15, "International services, continental calls, how may I help you?" What a mouthful!
I hated the strictness, the awful supervisors, timed when you went to the loo and punished if you took too long, punished for being more than 4 minutes late in the morning, I lasted 8 months and walked out one lunchtime and never went back! Met my first husband there though, he was an engineer.

Ah yes, we had a couple of really strict ones, and they used to listen in on us at random. I did enjoy it, but the headphones did hurt the ears after a few hours, ouch.
I also remember some of the engineers, we were 16 year olds and most of them were married, if you get my drift, naughty engineers :stop:

Evening Robin :)

I reckon it's punitive beyond belief .... and even I knew as a young boy that it was just wrong to penalise people for watching free to air TV.

The resentment back in those days from the bunch of convicts living here was just enormous :)

Evening Mike, I think it costs £129 or £149 in one hit, I think noblehead was shocked at the one off price, whereas you can pay in instalments, which I meant to do, but I got a little sidetracked at the end of the summer and everything went, well, out of the window

Sheesh ..... $300 AUD ? That is outrageous RRB .....

Tell us about it, but no adverts on the BBC so we had to pay if we want to watch, but as I said, I do watch a couple of the BBC channels, which I do enjoy :)

@Mike D the cost of a colour TV licence is £145.50 and £49,0 for a black and white ( my dad has a little portable black and white TV, he doesn't use it, but it does work with a little tweaking) ;)

RRB good evening Mike :)

If you are registered blind (severely sight impaired) then you are entitled to a “blind concession TV Licence” which gives you 50 per cent off the cost of your TV Licence. Unfortunately you are not entitled to this if you are registered as partially sighted (sight impaired).

The blind concession TV Licence covers anyone who lives with you, as long as the licence is in your name. If your licence is in someone else’s name then you can change this and then claim the reduction.

75 yrs and over, a person can apply for a free TV licence.

We never had a TV we watched the I -player on the computer as a catch up if there was anything we were really interested in ,but now my husband is over 75 we have a free license so we can watch live if we really really see the need which is very rarely.I think it is the case of if you are too blind to see it or too deaf to hear it you can have it for nowt !!!!

I've just remembered our woods had a park as well, with swimming pool, tennis coursts and a putting green looked after by the park keeper or 'parky' and his word was the law! We were all scared of him and would run a mile if we saw him coming anywhere near in case we'd done something wrong - can't imagine kids being so frightened of him nowadays!
Viz still has "The Parkie", who is fairly intimidating. There's an example of his exploits here. (Parental advisory: quite a lot of very rude language and not suitable for work unless your employer is quite tolerant of people ******, blinding and yelling a word beginning with the letter "c"). :D

Hah, not read Viz for years, glad to see it hasn't changed ;)
