What do you think of these readings?

Hi

New so sorry if this isn't in the right place. I had gestational diabetes controlled by insulin 9 years ago.

I recently took my blood sugar again. It is regularly 22-24 at night and 8-9 before breakfast.

From what I have read I think these readings are high. Am I right and what should I do?

Hi, yes, those readings look a little high. Go see your doc. Good luck.
 
Thanks for replies. I have booked in to see doctor. Can't get me in for nearly 2 weeks though.
 
hi, go to the hospital a&e then, you could be doing untold damage to yourself
 
My doctor (via his receptionist) said there was no reason to rush when I asked for an earlier appointment. I can't imagine a&e taking me seriously tbh. I have had a lot of dealings with them over the years.

GO TO A&E!!!!!!!

but im not a doctor or a receptionist for that matter so what do i know :)
 
Definitely worth getting medical advice with levels that high and you really need to be tested for ketones as BG levels that high in conjunction with ketones can lead to a dangerous condition known as ketoacidosis which needs immediate medical treatment.

Do you have a local out-of-hours clinic?
That's how I got diagnosed. My GP couldn't see me for ages, so I took myself to the out-of-hours clinic that my primary care trust operates. I was sent straight to hospital for a quick check up. Everyone was lovely - the nurse at the clinic fetched the Dr, both were very helpful and glad I went when I did. Same applies for the hospital. I felt like everyone was over-reacting because I had no symptoms (except for a urine infection), but was taking seriously and treated quickly.
If your trust operates one its worth going to because levels of 22 - 24 are serious enough to warrant medical attention fairly quickly. And if not, as Andy says, go to A&E.
 
Sorry, I am reading but A&E or out of hours is impossible for me. I am a single mum with no family support.

I keep thinking if I hadn't tested my blood I would be none the wiser and I feel ok so I will just have to manage. I have 2 special needs children who are difficult to cope with.

Could you possibly pop into your local pharmacy and ask for a blood glucose test? Most of them do it for free.
