If you are type 1 and go over the limit you can have an extra jab, what can you do if you are type 2 to get it down ???

Hi, don't know. T2 but only just diagnosed. I had a higher reading this week (8.5) but it settled down. I would assume if you had a series of high readings, a T2 would look at their recent diet and/or go back to doctor for more medication. I am sure someone far more knowledgeable will be along soon to give us the answer.
The post has appeared several times on the recent post headings. Did you have the same problem I had earlier today, that the post took ages to connect? Think the site might be having a blip today.

Mary's answer is fine. Wait for it to go down, and don't eat whatever it is you ate again. You can go for a brisk walk which will help to bring it down more quickly. Talk to the doctor if it happens all the time despite being careful with what you eat, as you might need a change in meds.

Sorry but It isn't really as simple as that.
As a T1 using insulin, unless I was extremely high (ie over about 14.5mmol/l) I would normally do some exercise. I wouldn't eat if I were very high either.

I am sure the idea behind withdrawal of test strips for T2s and reliance on HBAiCs wih no proper dieary advice is just o wait for he inevitable - for the disease to progress and hen for everyone o be on insulin so that T2s also can just give themselves another jab of insulin.
Easier and cheaper all ronnd - if the complications are left out of the equation.

If you mean over 10, delay your next meal, keep records, & modify your diet. As a T2, you are unlikely to have a crisis, & you will gain improved control over a matter of weeks or months.

But if by "over the limit" you mean over 20, you need to reduce carbs very significantly, & if you mean over 30, call NHS direct.

Going for a walk sometimes works for me :)
but I do try (or as hubby says I am very trying ) to keep low carb which works to keep my levels right but at the moment I am finding everything really hard.Oh well tomorrow is another day :)

I've just been for a 40 minute power walk, feeling a bit sweaty and out of breath BG now 6.6 - 2 hours after dinner. 1 hour after raspberries and clotted cream, mmmmmmmmm
