What Happens If I Didn’t Get The Correct Dose Of Insulin This Morning??

I can’t remember dialling the amount of units after priming my pen and I didn’t want to take more insulin!

If you are using a NovoPen Echo (reusable insulin pen for insulins by NovoNordisk), the LCD "Memory function" on the end of pen will tell you how much you took. If this is less than you need, you can top up to the total amount.
If you do not have one of these pens, or you took too much, the best thing to do is to wait and see what happens to your BG.

As you are on fixed doses, I assume you have not been told about correction doses, yet.

I'me afraid you will have to wait and see , if you start to go unusually high you can assume you didn't so perhaps if you're confident enough give yourself a correction dose .

I don’t think I took too much. If anything I don’t think I had enough!!

These are single use pens.
I would recommend requesting the NovoPen Echo next time you see your DSN.

In addition to the memory function on the end of the pen, the reusable pens are more robust, the cartridges take up less space in your fridge and they produce far less waste.


But, for now, fingers crossed that you took the right amount of insulin for breakfast.
If your BG is a bit high when it comes to lunch, would you feel comfortable reducing the carbs in your meal slightly?

I was using a Novo pen with Novo rapid insulin for years but last year I was told by my surgery that for cost cutting reasons at the NHS I would have to start using trurapi insulin with a Solostar pen which doesn't have the memory feature , a feature I have needed on a couple of occasions recently .

UPDATE!!

Over a couple of hours have passed since Breakfast! I put on a new sensor last night and just got my first reading.

Have you mentioned this to your hospital diabetes team? I think they would support you in using Novorapid and Novo pens.
I have had similar experience with my GP surgery, with their own dispensing facility, changing some non-diabetes medication for a cheaper one. But when I has requested to be changed back, they have done so.

It's happened to all of us at some point, I did this a few times when on injections, you live and learn !

If it helps just jot a note down on a pad for a few weeks to check you've taken it, sometimes helps to write it down.

No I have not mentioned it to my diabetic team , if it becomes a problem for me ,getting older forgetting things as we do I will ask if I could go back to the Novo pen , I'me all for saving the NHS a bit of money and very grateful they are there for me .
