"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I got a fair bit done today, the skip is finally gone, the garden is looking almost respectable and I dealt with an unruly bit of privet at the front where I park my car, I had to wait for the skip to be gone before I could do it. I'm not sure if my hay fever is getting started now or if it's the bug. Could be both! I want to try to avoid taking any hay fever tablets this year, I think they completely floored me last year - I seem to be one of the unlucky ones that get drowsy on the non drowsy sort.

I fasted until 2.30pm thanks to being busy in the garden, and had scrambled eggs with onion and cheese for breakfast (it was meant to be a crustless quiche but I cooked it in the microwave and had to stir it, so it scambled instead of quiche-ifying), followed by a few strawberries with greek yogurt and a little cream.

I've left it really late again to have my tea, so I'm just going to have a couple of small chicken thighs from the freezer.

Breakfast: a low carb quesadilla with cheese and a few thin slices of apple.

2nd meal: there's still plenty of the cabbage dish left, so it will have to be that.

Strange weather today included a dramatic thunder and lightning storm at lunchtime so although we managed to nip out quickly mid morning in between downpours we were mainly indoors today - so knuckled down to some more cleaning and sorting including the spare room. Hoping to get out for a walk in a bit and listen to a few podcasts.
Breakfast kefir then bacon, egg and mushrooms
Lunch some cheese, kimchi and LC seeded crackers then a few strawberries and hm yoghurt
Dinner hm chicken curry ( did in slow cooker all day) served with raita, coriander and LC roti and a gin with slice of lime and soda water. Just had some 90% chocolate with decaffeinated coffee.
Let's hope weather more settled tomorrow I'm keen to get out into the garden.

He said that eating cold pasta was healthier than eating it hot because it didn't spike the bg as much. Rosemary, have you tried low carb pasta? Not the konjac stuff (I really don't like that), but this...


It's not exactly the same as regular pasta, it's a little firmer, but with a good sauce it hits the spot for any pasta cravings I have. Not cheap, but cooks in the same way as regular pasta, is very filling, and at 6g carbs per serving it might be worth a look. Doesn't have any impact on my BG when I've tested it, but might be different for you.

Some sunshine but lots more rain today so I spent the day cleaning the kitchen ready for the new fridge freezer on Monday. I did manage to have a peaceful cup of coffee in the garden early on in a little spell of sunshine though.

I had carbs today, enough said!

Disclaimer on being somewhat inebriated, please forgive any typos.

I went to a lovely and very funny concert today with a friend I haven't seen in over 10 years, I used to babyit her almost 30 years ago.
The concert was a small thing in a museum, only room for up to 100 people. The artist was someone who had his one hit record in 1961, and both I (born in '77) and my friend (born in '89) know most of the songs from that double LP record by heart, thanks to our parents.

I was to go with another friend but she tested positive for covid, and with the expected average age of the concert goers we agreed not going would be wiser. So after a frantic last minute search among my friends I happily ended up with a friend I'd lost contact with.

I'd share some youtube video, but it's in Dutch so you won't understand how funny it is.*

I also am very amused by enjoying a heavy metal festival last weekend and doing the other end of the musical spectrum a week later!

Back home at 10:15 PM, had a very quick meal of leftover shawarma and sauce, followed by some drinks with my neighbour. Not too happy with his new 'smart tv'. Watched some stupid youtube videos, something boring about vikings, and a film about WW2 and went home to leave him with his new toy.

* I found they even did a song in English a while back, so here it is in case you're wondering what ype of concert I enjoyed today!

Sounds like a brilliant time @Antje77 ! My parents loved folk music and used to go to see local (and sometimes national) bands in pubs, where we were sometimes allowed in as children too. Happy memories!

@Paul, no I haven't. I've always stuck to a meat and 2 veg type of diet. I haven't had a lot of help from my surgery (d/nurse), all my real help has come from the lovely people on here. I'm not an adventurous cook but I might just try that. I think I'll try Dr M's suggestion first tho and see what happens. Thanks for your help

Breakfast: the last helping of the cabbage dish. There's still some left but it won't do for another meal. Maybe I should get a dog to share the extras rather than put them in the fridge/freezer.

Later will probably need a snack rather than a meal - probably sardines or pilchards out of a tin.

@MrsA2, you started my day off with a good laugh! Thanks. On a Monday morning that's great. My grandson moves to USA to live with my son and daughter-in-law on Wednesday, so am a bit down. He is flying 2 days before my birthday too. Today I have a boxful of cleaning stuff and a hoover and we are going to clean his flat. Hopefully we are going to lunch with my granddaughter. No lunch club today so a ham omelette and salad is in order. Have a good day folks.

Bacon and eggs for breakfast.

Might make a 2nd meal of French style peas with lettuce and spinach. Easy to make and cook. Don't feel like having any more meat at the moment.

Boxes of cooked meat out of the freezer ready to give to Alistair for the dogs, when he arrives with the mail. I'm never going to get around to eating any of it and I need to get the freezer emptied as far as possible although about 20% of it is filled with bags of grapes which DIL wants to use to make wine but hasn't managed to get around to it yet.

Had the neighbours in for a roast last night. 3 of them, 97, 90 and "80 something"! So lots of lovely leftovers for the next few days.
I did drink wine while out on Saturday and and 1 small glass last night.
Felt bloated and a bit off both the next mornings. However as the wine accompanied cheese I'm not sure who is the actual culprit. Off alcohol again for the rest of this week

Turkeys are funny!
It's finally weather to enjoy a book and a beer in my garden, which means trying to match the speed of drinking to the speed of insulin action. I'm pretty good at this game.

My lower high alert is set at 6.2, if it goes off it means I need to slow down with the beer for a bit to let the insulin catch up.

It also means that both male turkeys enthusiastically gobblegobblegobble right back at the alarm every time!

@Antje77 if you are starting your new job tomorrow hope it goes well. I got out into the garden today too - good to have some sun again.

Difficult when family members move away - hope you can keep in touch frequently. Virtual contact not the same I know but technology is definitely a boon to keep in touch when at a distance. Sending a big hug for you.

Yes, I'll try my hand at being a gully sucker tomorrow. I have no idea if it'll work out: The workday is ridiculously long (7-5), and most of it will be spent on my feet on horrible safety shoes, not something I'm used to even on comfortable shoes.
Thankfully my right shoulder with the sore tendon is slowly getting better so I mayy even be able to use it a little. The left arm on the other hand seems to slowly lose more function, despite doing the exercises the physio prescribed. Not the ideal start of a new job at all.

I'll just give it a try and we'll see what happens!

Clothes are laid out, I only have to put them on, same with the veggies and grains for the bunnies and guinea pigs, I only need to dish it out. Enough insulin left in my pen, plenty of needles and teststrips, phone is fully charged, 2 half liter water bottles are in my bag and I can top up during lunch break if needed. Rain coat and short pants are in my car, water and food bowls for dogs and cats are full.

Preparing my lunch box was rather complicated though.
I have no idea on how my diabetes will behave, so I prepared both for being hungry but BG being on the high side, and for stubbornly dropping BG because of activity.
I usually eat one slice of LC bread during the day, but usually I'm not spending 9 hours sucking gullies.

So I packed a two slice sandwich of LC bread, half with chorizo, half with gorgonzola.
A two slice sandwich of normal bread (stolen from neighbour while he was away earlier today, there was a whole loaf in his cupboard) in case of persistant dropping, half with chorizo, half with cheese.
Two pieces of dried sausage and two triangles of cheese spread.
My trusted diabetic crocodile toddler backpack also holds a small bag of crisps and of course a bag of winegums in case of emergency, and of course it's to come with me.

Now I need to try to go to bed, only seven and a half hours until my alarm goes off...

Well that got me into trouble again today. Trying to describe the song to friends, I started searching YouTube and Google for "kill dictators Dutch". Not only did it not come up, but I think I'm now on mI6 most wanted!!! I hadn't realised what I was searching!!!
